Battle Italiana

Recommended Posts

Season officially starts April 10th, I believe.

5x5 Roto:

OBP

HR

RBI

R

SB

ERA

WHIP

W

SO

SV

Since its just the 2 of us, I say we go deep:

C, C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, MI, CI, OF, OF, OF, OF, OF, UT, UT

9 pitchers (no SP/RP designation)

5 bench slots

You think thats good enough, or should we go deeper?

I also think that this may be a fairly slow process so we should start drafting ASAP. Give it to the end of the weekend to do research. I found a couple solid sites already. Through our earlier coin toss, I get first pick. As soon as we agree to the Cats/Roster Spots, I'll post my 1st pick. Im still deciding between a few guys.....and, yes, Giuseppe Mazzanti is among those few.

....so read up, talk to your uncle, whatever. This sh*t is On like Donkey Kong.

Alright....

To make it easier on us when checking box scores, I decided to break it down by team:

Pick 1.2 is Jairo Ramos-MONTEPASCHI GROSSETO

this guy can rake. I saw him on youtube

"Jairo Ramos was the team-MVP, batting .342 (OBP .456/SLG .555) with seven homeruns, twelve doubles, 33 runs scored and 40 RBIs in 42 games."

Ah, The Great Jairo Ramos....well thought-out pick, young grasshopper. You may prove to be a formidable adversary yet.

Your stats would be far more compelling if they didnt pale in comparison to Austin's:

Player....Age....AB.....R......HR.....RBI....SB.....OBP

Ramos.....37......155....33......7.......43......4..... .456

Austin.....31......161....43.....10.......50.....8...... .475

As for my sources: A true sportsman never reveals his secrets.

(This is going to be f*cking awesome!)

Im still weighing options on my next pick....but I did just make an administrative decision:

I Mangiatori Implacabili Della Pasta select Alana from the Brass Rail to be head cheerleader. I guess she'll do. (Im in love with a stripper......)

Also, you need to choose a team name. Throw I Mangiatori Implacabili Della Pasta into Babelfish or another online translator.

For the third pick of the Battle Italiana, I Mangiatori Implacabili Della Pasta select Giuseppe Mazzanti, 3B, Caffe Danesi Nettuno.

Had to take him off the board after I said he'd be my top pick at the game.

I think something to do with Team Italy? or something...

We both went to the WBC in Toronto this week...and we kept seeing these random BS stats up on the board for Team Italia. Decided to throw some money down on a 5x5 roto for the Professional Italian Baseball League. Apparently, my #3 pick had a .516 OBP and 1.096 OPS last year. Pretty solid, I guess.

(In our defense, there was alcohol involved in the decision to create it)

Maybe the guys from New Hampshire will stumble across the thread and know exactly what we are talking about.......I was thinking a bat girl, throw on some eye black, an XXL jersey......wow

Dude, you had me freaked out that my top pick wasnt going to be back this year.....but I found the perfect Fantasy Baseball Italiana Birthday Present:

http://www.fibs.it/it-it/GLI-ATLETI-STRANI...ALL-LEAGUE.aspx

Read (err...translate) it and weep.

Also, in light of the preceding article, I have my 3rd pick.

For the 5th pick of the Battle Italiana, I Mangiatori Implacabili Della Pasta select Martin Vasquez, OF, T&A San Marino.

"CARIPARMA, which ranked fifth in the 2008 Italian Baseball League season, signed infielder Johnny Carvajal. He is coming from the relegated RANGERS REDIPUGLIA, where he was the best player on the roster.

He batted .329 (OBP .392/SLG .582) with nine homeruns, 27 runs scored and 22 RBIs in 42 games. Carvajal was second in the league behind BOLOGNA’s Richard Austin in homeruns, total bases and slugging percentage.

The Venezuelan also has played for GROSSETO and GODO since his Italian debut in 2004 and led the Spanish Division de Honor with a .449 batting average in 2007, when he was with SAN INAZIO BILBAO."

OH BOY Johnny Caravajal, I think he keeps playing their for the Italian women. Sounds like he could play independent ball or something in the states.

Done and Done 3B Johnny Carvajal
