Zack Wheeler - SP NYM

Yeah I don't see them being in a position where they will NEED him in 2 weeks for any reason. They are not making the playoffs. They'll wait.

He's in the minors to work on his control/develop his change up. He was not sent down for financial/super 2 reasons. The Mets owners are behind their money woes.

When he is ready to pitch in the majors he will be called up. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in May following another great start or 2.

This guy projects even better than Matt Harvey. When he is ready, he'll be called up.

If you are in a deep league, I highly suggest adding him now.

Another solid outing...3rd consecutive.

Tonight: 7.1 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 Ks

The only walk came to his last batter (Gwynn, Jr) as he neared 100 total pitches in the 8th inning.

Impressive again!!!

Metsblog.com:

Triple-A Saturday: Wheeler Fantastic, Vegas Wins with Walkoff Walk.

May 12th, 2013 1:07 am

Alburquerque Isotopes (LA) 3, @ Las Vegas 51s 4

Saturday was another tremendous night for Mets top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler. The right hander threw 7.1 innings of six hit ball with seven strikeouts and only one walk but was not involved in the decision after leaving with a 3-2 lead. It’s the deepest Wheeler has pitched in a game so far this season and his 99 pitches are his fouth highest total. Five of the six hits Wheeler surrendered were singles, including a two out rbi knock for Rusty Ryal in the opening frame. The only extra base hit he allowed was a solo homerun for Matt Angle in the top of the 7th. All four of the homerun’s the Georgia native has given up this season have come at Cashman Field, a well-documented hitter friendly park.

Wheeler’s control, which was an issue early in the season, no longer appears to be a problem. He’s walked one batter in each of the last three starts and has been throwing all his pitches for strkies with great velocity. Not so coincedentally his numbers and overall results since that time have been outstanding.

Wheeler’s pitching line Saturday: 7.1IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 7K, 1BB, 1HR, 99 pitches/ 61 strikes.

Wheeler’s last three starts (2-0): 20IP, 14H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 19K, 1HR. His era has gone from 5.79 to 3.74.

He'll be up soon, no doubt about it, regardless of Super Two status.

The Mets aren't out of the race yet, but if they keep sending Niese/Gee/Marcum out there, then they will be pretty soon. Harvey can win them any game, and with Wheeler's potential, he may be able to do the same.

Not his fault they didn't win.

Didn't say it was. BB said he can win them ANY game, and he didn't do it, this time.

The Mets are not going to be in any race. The only way for them to win games is when Harvey pitches 8 scoreless innings. Their team has almost no offense. Even if they bring up Wheeler, 3/5 of their starting pitching staff is still very mediocre.

Sounds like an Angels fan is upset that they didn't manage to sign Harvey when they drafted him in 2007.

How and when do they decide on Super Two date?

The Super Two date isn't determined until after the season, as it's the date which determines the top 22% of service time gainers from the previous year. So if a ton of prospects (say exactly 22% of all who came up that year) where called up for opening day, the super two date would be the day after opening day.

speculated to be around mid june

wheeler should be ready to go before then ... so we'll find out in the next couple weeks if super 2 is part of the decision. they've been pretty adamant about triple a being a "baseball move" [improve control/change up] rather than a financial decision but we'll see.

dynasty owner and mets fan ... pretty psyched for the harvey/wheeler era to begin.

Yeah I've read in a couple places they're not worried about his Super Two status, but a lot of teams blow smoke like that. We shall see.

LOL...sounds like somebody wants to make more of this than it is. You must work for one of the "news" networks. Keep your sensationalism to yourself. To be 100% candid, I didn't even realize the Angels had originally drafted him.

what's his fastball at right now?

I know he can drop his curve down to 70-75 [it's by far his best pitch, been mlb ready for years]
