IDP Questions 2009

Recommended Posts

Straight Cash - I've never been a huge fan of Peppers for fantasy purposes, kinda like Freeney. What are your other options?

Replacements for him for this week could be:

McGee

Kelvin Hayden

John Joseph (I don't trust anyone with 2 first names)

Ryan Denney

Dom Barber

I'd take a long look at Barber, myself.

any ideas on who to pick up that i can gain pts for return yards?

I have blackmon...

A few names pop into mind.....

Jim Leonhard (Jets SS) punts

Antrel Rolle (Cards FS) punts

Allen Rossum (SF CB) KO, punt specialist

Chris Carr (Bal CB) primarily KO

EDIT: When I use "primarily KO" for Carr, I'm referring to the fact that the vast majority of his yardage production has come from KOR, at a ratio of 6.5/1.

My 10 team league uses just two IDP spots where you can start any position. Solo Tackle (1), Sack/Int (3), FF/FR (2), Safety (5), TD (6).

So, with only 20 total IDP starters, there is a lot of talent available. My current starters are:

DeMarcus Ware

David Harris

Some of the FA include:

Beason

Durant

Lofton

Would you make any change(s)?

EDIT: I noticed Beason and Lofton are on BYEs this week, but I'm asking for the rest of the season really.

I would take Lofton and Durant for the rest of the season....I don't think Beason is going to be as productive as we all thought at the beginning of the season. It seems all of the plays are running through the weakside and Thomas Davis is getting the bulk of the opportunities....

I'd still like to have Beason on my team but I'd rather have Lofton and Durant a bit more.....

Lofton. He's been a tackle machine over the past three weeks, and while none of those matchups you listed are LB dream matchups, SF is in the upper half of fantasy points allowed to LBs and tackles by LB.

Not unless tackles are worth 3 points each in your league.

One of my leagues we start 3 IDP of any position....

I am already starting:

James Harrison @DET

Karlos Dansby vs HOU

Thomas Howard @ NYG

With the news of Kawika Mitchell starting in the middle for the Bills this week, i would really like to add him and start him against the Browns.

I only like to carry 3 defenders at a time....would it be worth dropping Thomas Howard or even Dansby to pick and play Mitchell this week? or should i stick with what i have?

thanx

My league settings allow 1 point/tackle, .5 point/tackle assist, 3 points/sack. I had been running Trent Cole out there because he's always good for at least 8 tackles but this week started Jared Allen (25 points, yay!). Who is the better play this week out of the two?

First off, you're right to keep only three defenders at a time. No need to burn valuable bench space on IDPs unless you have a top-10 guy on a bye.

Now, on to your question. Howard and Dansby are both good tackle-producing LBs, and generally speaking I wouldn't advocate dropping either of them. If this is a matchups-play issue, then maybe Dansby.

Mitchell has Cleveland - they give up 25 tkls (22 solo) per game to LBs.

Howard has NYG, who gives up 22 tkls (17 solo) per game to LBs.

Dansby has Houston, which gives up 23 tkls (16.5 solo) per game to LBs.

So statistically, not much difference. Gotta go to intangibles. IMO, Houston/Arizona is going to be a shootout - lots of passing - not conducive to big LB numbers. If I had to choose, I'd sit Dansby. But is it worth dropping Dansby for a matchups-based play? I'm not so sure it is. It depends on Mitchell's longevity at the position; plus, I'd like to give him a week or two of evaluation before I snatch him up in place of a guy like Dansby.

Allen. TB ranks dead last in fantasy points allowed to DLs: 3 sacks on the season, 43 (23 solo) tackles to DL. Compare that to a team like Miami: they've allowed 8 sacks and 72 (57 solo) tackles to DLs.

Allen gets Stl - not a great matchup, but Allen is a great player, and can put up points on a weekly basis.

1pt/TT 3pt/SACK 4pt/FF

Please pick 2 of the following,

James Laurinaitis vs MIN

Jon Beason vs WSH

Justin Durant vs SEA

And 1 of the following,

Elvis Dumervil vs NE (DE eligible, which makes this a very hard choice)

Robert Mathis vs TEN

Thanks! Good luck this week everybody.

IDP Scoring: 1 pt for Solo tackle/ pass def...2 pt for INT/ Sack/ FFum/ FRec

Should I drop Demarcus Ware for Antawn Odom?

Ware is killing me this year, only 13 solo tacks which was expected, but 0 sacks!?...Odom is off to a dominate start 16 solos + 8 sacks (although 5 were vs GB). So should I hit the panic button on Ware, or continue to start him until he eventually heats up.

I own Odom(see sig)and he's been quiet the last couple of weeks, not horrible mind you, but after a monster first two weeks I was expecting more. I wouldn't jump the gun yet and dump Ware, besides it's not like IDP's is a pressing need. You can afford to be more patient with those positions. I think Ware will come around while I think Odom has peaked but definitely agree, Ware has been a huge disappointment so far. Ware's bye is next week however so if you have the bench space you might want to pick up Odom regardless. That's my two cents anyway.

I like Laurinaitis and Beason, Laurinaitis should be on the field a long time today, and Beason has a bad team in Washington but Durant is a solid play as well I don't think you'll go wrong either way. To answer your second question I'd actually go Mathis, Brady doesn't get sacked a lot and Dumervil's tackle totals isn't very high. Plus given Indy's inability to stop the run Mathis should be out there plenty.

D'Qwell Jackson was listed as Doubtful, but he is not on the inactive list. Would he still be worth a start? I have Yeremiah Bell in for him at the Defensive Player slot.

I'll take Laurinaitis and Beason, just barely over Durant....and Mathis.

aab, I'd hang onto Ware for a little while longer.

BoSox, tough call, D'Qwell hasn't quite been all that this year, and Bell will be defending a rookie QB in prime time.  I'll give Bell the call since he's the healthier option.
