The USA captain will be a Toffee from January to mid-March, leading up to the 2010 MLS season.

He'll join fellow American international Tim Howard on the highly struggling Everton side, currently 15th in the EPL. Goal-scoring has been a big problem for the Toffees, who average slightly more than a goal per match and only have one player on their roster who has hit the back of the net more than three times in all competitions.

Donovan has never played professionally in England, but has had two spells in Germany, with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

Donovan made an impact in his first appearance today, assisting on the first goal of the match.

Wearing the #9 shirt, he found Leon Osman in front of the net to put Everton ahead of Arsenal in the 12th minute of a match that would eventually end in a 2-2 draw. He played 67 minutes overall before being substituted out.

He makes his home debut next Sunday vs. Manchester City.

I'm sure he has captained the US national team at times, when Bocanegra has not played, but when both are on the field, Bocanegra wears the armband. I think Donovan should be the captain of the team, but it would be harsh to take it away from Bocanegra when he really hasn't done anything wrong.

Today was supposed to be Donovan's last match in England (pending the start of the MLS season), and if it is, he'll have gone out in style.

He came on as a substitute in the 71st minute, with Everton leading 3-1 at home over Hull City. He set up Yakubu in front of the goal with a nice pass, but he failed to convert. Shortly afterward, he took a cross from Leighton Baines and fired the ball low into the back corner for Everton's 4th goal - Toffees captain Phil Neville led the crowd in chants of "USA, USA!"

It didn't take long for Donovan to make another play, this time, flicking the ball to Jack Rodwell, who finished off the scoring at 5-1.

Altogether, Donovan scored 2 goals and had 3 assists with Everton during his spell.
