There's no indication on price tag and the article suggests the move may be tied to Barca landing David Villa.

The BBC says David Villa signing will be announced on Friday, and Barcelona has reported paid Valencia £34.2 million for him. Barca is also expected to make a big push for Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.

Birmingham have signed Man United backup goalkeeper Ben Foster and paid an undisclosed fee for him. Birrum had an opening after Joe Hart returned to Man City from his loan spell. Foster briefly started for United early last season with Van der Saar out and struggled against Chelsea and Man City, hence the use of the word "briefly".

Reports out of Italy say that Italian national Captain and former Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro is considering a move to MLS after the World Cup, and is considering offers from LA Galaxy, NY Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union. Instead of deciding on a MLS team to wind down his pro days, Cannavaro has signed a deal with Al-Ahli in Dubai. According to him, with the deal he "realizes my dream of living in Dubai and finishing my career playing for one of its clubs".

Okay.

Would Donovan be in line for any type of significant role with either team? Sounds like Man City has spent a boatload of money and likely wouldn't have a big role for him. Not so sure about Everton.

With Everton, absolutely.

When he was loaned there back in the spring, he was given #9, immediately went into the starting lineup, and played most (if not all) of the matches. If he were to go there, he's probably go right into the starting right wing role.

With City, it's not as clear. I haven't checked the latest gossip, but they've already added Toure, and got a good season from Craig Bellamy in that role (IIRC). If Shaun Wright-Phillis is truly on the block, then that could create an opening. With them, he might have to settle for being a well-paid reserve many weeks.

He will be below Adam Johnson, Wright-Phillips and new big shot signing David Silva in the pecking order. They also have Vladimir Weiss, who had a good World Cup for Slovakia. So i can't see this happening.

The MLS site is wondering out loud about some transfer possibilities from overseas: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/post...e-next-join-mls

Riquelme would be a dream signing for Union. Dingsdag, Strba, Linderoth and Silvestre would fill holes that need to be addressed before our schedule really kicks in.

We've got four open senior roster spots and all three DP's available....make it happen, Peter!
