2012 Waiver Wire Touts

559 posts in this topic

Post your recommended Free Agent Pickups or somebody on your watch list.

Here are my recommendations..

Pickups :

Damian James - if he hasn't been picked up yet, word is out that he's going to be the starting SF

Gary Neal - probable starter for SG spot but how many minutes is he going to play? Pick him up after the first couple of weeks after his appendectomy

Watch list :

Tiago Splitter - starting Center; let's wait and keep a close look if he's someone whom T Duncan can pass the torch to

Jerryd Bayless - the hype is gone and it's all about outperforming J Calderon : he has the talent but does he have the mindset and dedication to do it?

Ekpeh Udoh - A Biedrins amnesty candidate, B Wright / A Randolph are out. GSW has been waiting for a solid big man for years. Can Udoh be the one?

Josh Howard - this could be the last time that people would think "does he still have it?"

Calderon is better at running a team. Bayless is more of a score first PG.

Calderon will be the starter until Bayless can prove he can make other players better.

yeah i read something about udoh. he's at the top of my watch list

should wes johnson be available in any leagues? he was undrafted in mine, and i know if he makes any type of jump in PT he'll be a monster

Wes could potentially be a 1-1-1 guy but I'm not buying the fact that he shoots a low FG% and subpar FT% for a guard. I would keep him in a deep league but not a 12-team since there are better options.

The hell? Is Ginobili injured or are assuming Ginobili will start at SF instead of Richard Jerfferson?

Manu usually plays off the bench

I'm not convinced at all.

I think Blair is gonna scarf up all the minutes to be had.

yeah.. Tony P and Duncan missed some games too that's why Popovich had to insert him in the starting lineup

but with this season's tight schedule, we may see some action from other SAS players

jordan hill looks solid.

They may sign Dalembert soon, and are clearly looking for more frontline help.

Terrence WIlliams, ive been calling his name 2 seasons running now, but i think the new coaching staff gives him an opportunity. he has the talent. it could happen.

Agree, but I wouldn't waste anything more than the last pick in a draft on him. Don't drop anyone of value, but if he ever figures out how to be a professional instead of a headcase he has crazy stat possibilities.

I'm going to add:

Barea

Biyambo

Hansbrough

and as someone mentioned above Beaubois

it looks right now like Biyombo wont be playing in the NBA this year...as a Bobcat fan, im hoping they work something out sooner than later and he gets to play some of this year. but unless it is a dynasty lg or keeper lg there would be no reason to pick him off waivers

Wow... I just read this. Why would anyone spend the 7th pick in the draft on this kid with that situation... thanks for the heads up.

Biyombo will be in CHarlotte next season for sure. i guess they were optomistic about working out a buyout for this year. it wasnt exactly a deep draft, and he was their guy. another year of seasoning wont hurt his game.

Biyombo is definitely worth a flier, at least until we figure out his role a little more. He's got Serge Ibaka-type shot-blocking and rebounding ability, and if he gets any type of consistent rotation minutes, he could be worth owning. His FT% and TOs are going to be a lot worse than Ibaka and he doesn't have as developed of an offensive game, but if he can keep from killing you in those categories, he'll have value as a blocks specialist. He doesn't have much in his way in terms of minutes, either. Worst case scenario, he doesn't pan out and you pick up someone else, but it doesn't hurt to swing for the fences with your last round pick.

My breakout candidate for this year is Paul George. I could be disappointed, because a lot will depend on the opportunity he gets, but like Nicolas Batum in Portland - he has the tools to be a fantasy gem if his role expands. There's so many reports of him being bigger, stronger, taller (!), and more aggressive this year. He might be the most talented player on the whole Pacers roster.

Anyway, worth a stash and should be useful enough for steals because he's starting, with crazy upside - love this guy as a last round pick.

I'm taking a flier on that as well. However, it's important to note that the Pacers front office is sending mixed signals there.

First of all, they acquired George Hill from the Spurs with the idea that Collison and / or Hill would get some minutes at SG. I think their notion was that George would get minutes at SF backing up Granger.

Second of all, they showed interest in OJ Mayo, so that tells me they aren't completely sold on George's offensive abilities.

Third, they traded Brandon Rush ... put that together with the fact that George had success against Derrick Rose in last year's playoffs ... and you have to think that the Pacers FO at least believes that George can be their defensive specialist.

In the draft last year, it was believed that George had good range and suspect dribbling abilities. However he only shot about 30% on 3s last year (approx 150 attempted). So he needs to shoot better this year. Also, he needs to develop a mid-range and/or post game.

Shooting percentage seems to be one of those things that 2nd year players can develop. And I think the inate talent is there, so I think there's hope. But I'll be watching his FGAs and 3 pt shooting carefully to see exactly how much latitude he's getting.

Rubio went undrafted in my league, I just dropped Bibby (my 12th round pick) for him. Anyone targeting Rubio late? Based on his 1 preseason game, he looks like a Jason Kidd type fantasy player w/o the blocks/3s. His shooting isn't there yet, but if he just contributes rebs, asts, stls, FT% and low TO I'm very happy getting him late.

What is so special about Beobouis? That team is stacked

The thing that's special about RoddyB is that he's incredibly quick, long, and athletic. If he gets the ball on a fast break he makes everyone else look like they're standing still. He also might be a good shooter ... he shot 50%/40%/80% in his rookie year (although significantly worse than that last year).

The thing that's held Roddy back is that he has no idea how to use or defend against the P&R. This is why he typically has played at SG and not PG. Last night, when the Mavs ran an iso for Roddy on the perimeter, they just let him go 1 on 1 with his defender with no screener ... that seemed to work pretty well.

All in all there's a ton of potential there. But for the moment, he'll be limited by his inability to defend the #1 play used in the NBA.
