I see the Phillies, Braves and a mystery team are interested. Any guesses who the mystery team is?

Never rule out the Evil Empire either. They still have a lot of money and need to replace Swisher.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Braves have reached a deal with free agent outfielder B.J. Upton.

The terms of the agreement are not yet known, and Upton still has to pass a physical. But this baby is all but official. Upton also drew interest this offseason from the Phillies, Rangers, Nationals and Giants before settling on Atlanta, where he will start in center field. The 28-year-old batted .246/.298/.454 with 28 homers and 31 stolen bases in 146 games this past

Braves it is. Where do you guys see him hitting in this lineup?

I'd guess he takes over the top spot in the lineup to replace Bourn.

Upton CF

Simmons SS

Heyward RF

Freeman 1B

McCann C

Prado 3B

Uggla 2B

??? LF

Pitcher

With a career .336 OBP% (most of that front loaded) including .298 last year? Maybe they can reverse the trend.....

Not many options other than Prado if looking for someone to set the table....

They should sign a left fielder that can be a leadoff hitter for them, then bump Upton to number 2 or 7 (with Prado in the other spot) and drop Simmons down to the eight spot.

Defense or not I just cant see ATL paying that much money for a guy to bat 7th. Have to imagine they see him as leadoff or 2 hitter.

This is my thinking as well.

Nothing like paying for a name. $15M for this bum is a joke. Enjoy the 150+ K's Atlanta!

Admittedly, Bourn was good for 155 Ks last season himself, it appears they're not afraid of that near the top of the order.

Bourn's career .339 OBP is only marginally better than Upton's .336 (though admittedly they have been trending in very different directions). They are significantly lacking in terms of any other option with speed to lead off, so I'd guess this is where he will end up.

In fact, Upton's 2011 K/BB is pretty similar to Bourn's 2012.

Bourn 2012: 70 BB, 155 K

Upton 2011: 71 BB, 161 K

Last season was a career worst for Upton in terms of BB and BB/SO... the Braves likely are counting on him reversing that trend.

I do not feel like his value(fantasy) is effected by this move at all and as usual will be more then willing to draft a player that can give me around 23 HR's & 30 SB's.

Its a risk no doubt. I've had no indication (other than MLB network projecting him at leadoff) that the Braves are wanting Upton at the leadoff spot. Most of their middle of the order guys are left handed so I see him potentially in the 5th spot or the 6th spot. I have heard Simmons name thrown out there as a potential lead off man. Braves also will add either a LF or 3B this offseason as well so potentially their leadoff man is not on the roster right now.

Don't underestimate the changing of teams for potential impact on Upton's production. He has always been under a microscope in Tampa after his high draft status so finally getting out of all that may take some pressure off. 28 year old breakout year anybody???

Am I the only one who thinks playing with his brother will bring the best out of BJ? It wouldn't surprise me if he hit .275 this year.

I think it will. I can see both of them putting it together this year.

I wonder what the odds are of all three of Jup, BJ, and Heyward going 30/30 this year.

242 avg hitter in his last 4 seasons

316 OBP in his last 4 season (below average)

Let's not even bother with OPS

Is a strike out machine

Has six straight full seasons under his belt

and you seriously think he has a remote chance of hitting 275?

have fun drafting him

Exactly. How does playing with your brother help you strike out less, or hit the ball better? Was he not really trying the last few years? That's a sucker's narrative IMO

Bj Heyward

J up

Freeman

Uggla

McCann

Would be how I would have it.

I can seriously see J Up having the same year as last but with a worse avg. As 2Balls said, how does playing with your brother help you strike out less...let`s turn it around on you, what if Justin plays WORSE because he is playing with his brother? Maybe playing with your brother deteriates your hitting more and causes you to strike out more!

Yes I am being serious with J Up having a worse avg year.

If there is any hope for ATL, Uggla behind McCann. Then again, McCann will probably only play 100 games this time around.

Only with an outrageously high BABIP do I see BJ crossing the .270 mark.

However, his power is definitely trending upward, so I'm much more hopeful of 30/30 and .250.

I predict a great year. I think his new team will inspire him to put in a better effort and numbers. I also think playing with his brother will spur him on to swing a better bet. Dont draft him, cause i gladly will.
