Neil Walker 2013 Outlook

62 posts in this topic

just signed a one-year deal. he's 27.

he had a nice run there in the middle of 2012 when he caught fire. was crushing it (relative to other 2bs). Then he had a back injury and a hand injury and that was all she wrote.

given how bad 2b is this year, i'm liking this guy a ton, provided he looks healthy in the spring.

Ugg... The pool of players at this position is disgusting. You could count on both your hands the amount of players(ESPN eligibility) that I would be willing to draft. Neil Walker is not one of them.

Maybe he takes the next step this year? 20-25 hrs and 15 sbs if he stays healthy all year. Brandon Phillips stats but can be had cheaper.

I like Walker after the top options at 2B. He is a solid across the board contributor, nothing sexy about what he does but he wont bomb any cats. If he plays a whole year and shows no ill effects from the offseason surgery I would say he is an outside shot at 20hrs and 10 SB.

If he can stay healthy I see the lines:

.285/18HR/80RBI/8SB/80R

What do you guys think?Last year he was on and off(form and health) but could be nice option late in the draft.

Guys I'd take before walker:

Cano

Pedroia

Zobrist (more value as SS though)

Hill (though he's dicey)

Kipnis

Kinsler

Altuve

Hmmm...maybe utley, maybe Rutledge (SS though, like Zobrist) and if I had a few beers and felt courageous, perhaps R Weeks

Theres an undeniable lack of depth at the top. Walker is a nice option if you don't want to reach for the top guys.

I'd take Weeks ahead of Walker for sure. After a slow start, Rickie really turned it up.

i don't have a problem with people ranking altuve, weeks, kipnis ahead of walker, but i will gladly pass on those three and take neil later.

Id agree with that, hes a classic solid but not spectacular guy. Good value and he will produce good numbers by the end of year, if he can slot into a teams MI position hes an even better asset.

He reminds me of this guy:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/3539/todd-walker

I use to always end up with Todd Walker on my fantasy teams for some reason for a good 2-3 year stretch in the early 2000's. Mostly because he always got underrated and went late in drafts. Similiar to his brother from another mother Neil, they both have similiar skill sets that get underappreciated and de-valued. Neil is going to be a good value pick. He won't put up huge numbers, but he will be solid from start to finish if you just plug him and play him.

I personally wouldn't take Altuve or Hill over him. wouldn't take altuve because of the stats and we all know Aaron Hill could easily flop this season.

grabbed walker as a MI and very happy with it....looks healthy so far...relatively cheap production for MI - 20/10 upside if produces. Was having a very good season last year until injured....dont recall him being injury prone so hope to see him have a good year.

0 for his last 18 now. Something has gotta give.

Cut him yesterday, couldn't stand it anymore.

I'm actually thinking of buying low on this guy...

He'll turn it around.
