52 posts in this topic

last season he put up some good numbers. 75 runs, 128 hits, 30 doubles, 4 triples, 90 rbis and 30 hr. his line .253/.327/.506/.833.

i looked at his stats for his past seasons and he doesnt really put up numbers like that. was last year a fluke or something and does he have any value coming into this season?

He's always had star potential. Combine that with a healthy season hitting in a decent AZ lineup last year and there was a recipe for success.

Not sure if he is going to sit against lefties. Why do I have a feeling he will not come close to last season numbers.

Because that outfield is super deep. They still have Eaton and Ross on their way back from the DL. I would stay away.

i like this dude to continue what he did last year. but where does he stand in the OF with Cody Ross currently out there?

Their starting OF will be Eaton / Ross / Kubel on most days when each are healthy. Parra and Pollock are more the candidates to eat into playing time than Ross. And until Eaton returns, it's just Parra / Ross / Kubel.

The challenges for Kubel will be:

1. Stay healthy

2. Hit lefties so he can play more than 75% of the time

3. Cut down on the Ks so he can hit over .250

I'm not terribly confident on any of the above, so I'll predict .255 / 23 / 70 the rest of the way through the season. That's still decent, and I'm happy to own him in my NL-only. I like having the .290/28/95 upside if he can figure out #2 or #3 above.

Any guesses on what to expect from him when he comes back from the injury?

I will take a stab. I guess 4/28.

Home run today. Kubel is a solid player. Should keep getting full playing time.

Or ride the pine every other day. . .

It's obvious. He sits vs LHP's fairly often. He mashes RHP and he mashes at home.

Lots of bodies in that OF. Pollack is really emerging, Parra has emerged, Eaton is on his way back, they got Ross. This is going to be messy situation. But you figure Kubel should at least play against all RHP.

kubel isn't a good platoon player. needs the rhythm of being in the lineup everyday.

his stats last year were pretty dependent on batting 3rd or 4th every single day.

i don't like the smell of this OF. I may drop him.

He should be playing every day. He has a solid track record as an every day player and the D'backs are starting guys over him that are nowhere near as proven. It's silly.

Yeah I'm really wondering if I should hold onto this guy. I loved what he did for my team last season, but my god they sit him a lot.

Is he being platooned?

Yes, he can't hit lefties (and he's a horrible defender)
