Is this the year he breaks out? He's having a great spring .439/.477/.902 with five bombs to go with it...THOUGHTS?

I end up with him every year

I basically plug him in and wait for the 20HR cheap power ...

Love the Jays lineup as a whole and this is the first year he wont have to worry about losing playing time

I usually grab him late on every team or Doumit.

Cheap HR's. I'm a Jays fan and believe he can hit closer to 25-30 but time will tell

Average probably won't be pretty but he hits bombs...2 HRs on the night so far

Grabbed him as my 2nd catcher in all of my leagues. It's nice to have a backup catcher since they don't play as often as others and I fully expect JP to breakout this year by raising his average and hitting around 30 HR's. I actually dropped Lucroy in one of my leagues to grab Jose Fernandez and JP is my starting catcher. I am really high on him this year. Looks great so far. 3 for 3 with 2 HR's tonight. Keep it coming!!!

Starting off with a good average this year. Does he normally start hot and then average eventually goes down to .220 or is this year looking like it might be different?

I strongly believe his AVG isn't going to be that bad. I would give him the range of .260 to .270 with 25 HRs.

He can crush the breaking ball and fastball

While this would be nice, do you have anything to go on other than you "strongly believe"?

His K-rate is up to 35%, and the only reason his average is higher is due to an unsustainable .444 BABIP.

Only a week in, so SSS alert, but nothing suggests to me that his average is going to be higher.

.220-.225/25 HR's/70 RBI's would be my prediction, he's basically crushing anything in the strike zone right now, but as a Jays fan who watches almost every game he lacks discipline at the plate and like any other hacker he goes through hot and cold streaks. I don't see a fundamental shift in his approach, and there are still times he takes swings at stuff that Vlady Guerrero in his prime would lay off of (and unlike Vlady he wouldn''t hit it).

0/4 today but was completely robbed of another homer by an amazing catch at the wall, guy is locked in.

And 3 Ks. Wouldn't call that "locked in." He is what he is.

What an April JP is having...8 bombs so far with a week to go? EXCEEDING expectations, and contender for my roster's MVP award for the month of April.

Another bomb today. Picked him up as insurance for V-Mart, but now he's the one I've been starting.

Exact situation I'm in right now....

I mean, it's getting to the point where I'd consider sticking him in my utilily spot, and there's not many catchers you can say that about...

I'm in the same boat man. I have Mauer occupying my catcher spot right now, but JP's power is undeniable. I picked him up for a quick, cheap power source but he keeps smashing, and he's becoming a premier catcher this year so it's hard to drop a guy like that. I'm considering keeping the two, but trading one of my other 1B since Mauer has that eligibility.

This guy's statline is hilarious to follow. 10 homers now, but a 48/2 K/BB ratio. He's on pace for 40 homers with a 190/8 K/BB ratio and a .245 OBP. Bizarre hitter because most power hitters have at least decent plate discipline and take some BBs almost by default with pitchers being careful with them.

I've read Blue Jays message boards and their hardcore fans absolutely loathe this guy as a player. It's pretty amusing.
