DeMarco Murray 2013 Season Outlook

1,003 posts in this topic

I want to get the opinion of some of you gentlemen who are cowboys fans about Murray. To me he passes the eye test and rewatching his games from his past 2 injury-riddled seasons I'm a fan of his game. I'm about to swing a trade for him in 2 of my dynasty leagues because I believe he is undervalued but I can't help but feel like he's going to be injured yet again. What are your thoughts on his value, potential and risks?

I love to watch him. He has great talent and I love his physical play. I think he pretty much showed he was a stud when he got the bulk of the load against the Rams in 2011.

But for fantasy, I limit my expectations. I don't see myself taking him any sooner than the 3rd round which is where his ADP will likely be.

I think this video pretty much says it as far as talent goes:

Love him, tough runner, explosive, but his body type and running style cause him to be injury prone. I would consider him for my RB1/RB2 slot as part of a rotation or in the flex spot but cannot be relied on as your stud RB1. Draft or trade for him accordingly.

I agree with OP inclinations and with the sentiments that health may be a factor.

Depending on what you are giving up Murray is not a bad option to have on your team. Especially in PPR leagues because he is a true every down back but has yet to accomplish being an every game back.

Love Murray's potential but injuries should temper your expectations.

Really sort of dependent on what you are giving up?

He moves like Arian Foster....just wish he was as durable.

Julius Jones had some very impressive games too.

Wildly inconsistent, even when healthy.

Mirage.

Will need a Bryce Brown type to recover from this gaffe on draft day.

He doesn't have Foster's vision and Foster doesn't leave himself open to get hit like Murray, at least not as much. I think Murray tries to run more like A.D., but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Love this guy's game.... absolutely one of my favorite RBs.

Having said that, would prefer to let someone else have him in fantasy.

Dominant while healthy... but has a playing style that contradicts his lack of durability.

Doesn't score that much and not durable. Too many mouths to feed and Felix left so there's no insurance on Demarco. Felix leaving is important because the Cowboys will even more weary to let Demarco out on the field for too long.

Even if they resign Felix cheap I think Dallas definitely goes after a RB in the middle rounds, Arkansas alum or Texas product. Knile Davis or Dennis Johnson come to mind. John Randle is another possibility. I could even see Jones gamble on Lattimore in the 2nd or 3rd if everything checks out with his knee.

Mirage.

Agreed.

Pretty much everybody looked like a stud against the Rams in 2011, yet the hype from that game lives on.

Just because you can catch passes, doesn't make you an every down back. In Murray's case, he's actually just a third down back. He's not a very good 1st & 2nd down back. Cowboys need to bring someone in to handle those duties. Murray would be well suited in the Felix role from the Marion/Felix days.

I remember the same case with Julius Jones; talented but injury prone. Gave false hope to Cowboy fans everywhere about their running game. Eventually got replaced with Marion Barber and Felix. Passed over Stephen Jackson to get Julius Jones. Cowboys just have bad luck with RB's....and kickers

Let's put the over/under at 12 games Murray plays this year. Where are you putting your money?

Considering he hasn't played >10 games in his career yet the safe bet is under.

I'm thinking of having a RB core of Murray, Mathews, and DMC. Maybe I'll get 16 games combined out of all 3.

Is it really that big of a season killer if he plays 12 games and you've got his handcuff? Many people are acting like losing a 4th round RB (RB17) is going to decimate their team. He's a 2nd round talent but ADP largely reflects his injury risk. Might not be a bad play to gamble on his this year.

Not that it means anything, but he was on Cowherd's radio show today and said he's "150%"

When 3 of those 4 games missed are in the playoffs it's a season killer.

It wouldn't be that big of a killer. He's got upside, and could reach his ceiling if he stays healthy. If he stays healthy.

But I won't be drafting him this year. I was looking for him to say 200%, 150% is just not good enough.

So he's going to get injured, and it'll be during weeks 14-16. Heh... *spins roulette wheel*

My mistake, I already knew he missed the 2011 playoffs and thought he also missed last year's.

I actually like all three of those backs at their current ADPs. I don't want to go into the season with any of them as a starting RB and I don't want to own more than one of those names but, although there are risks involved, any of those backs could give nice returns as your RB3.
