Jonathon Pettibone 2013 Outlook

He's clearly not a strikeout pitcher, but his numbers are a bit reminiscent of Pat Corbin or Tim Hudson of recent years (not Tim Hudson in his prime). Career minors:

2.6 BB/9, 6.4 K/9, 1.9 G/F ratio. Total 3.44 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.

That's nearly identical to Tim Hudson's career:

2.7 BB/9, 6.0 K/9, 2.2 G/F ratio. Total 3.43 ERA and 1.24 WHIP.

Not saying that putting up those numbers in the minors is anywhere near as impressive as Hudson putting them up in the majors, but it seems like Pettibone has a shot to stick. He was probably better than Lannan all along, right?

If he pitches well, he'll stay. Lannon doesn't need a spot anyway. He seemed to have longball issues tonight. Not sure if that is a trend or not from the minors, but I'm intrigued by him and taking a look in NL only league.

I didn't watch him tonight, but the local sportscaster here in Philly on ABC said he got hit hard, but managed to get around trouble

he pitched decently well...definitely has a major league future...but charlie was very non-committal after the game, and they seem to like the idea of lefty adam morgan (http://phuturephillies.com/2013/04/06/adam-morgans-aaa-debut/) as Lannan's replacement going on...Pettipone just lined up better to start last night...

Pettipone has had solid, not spectacular numbers through the minors, but didnt impress in spring training and had a 9 era in AAA so far, so they would probably like him to spend more time there.

as far as last night, Alvarez hit a line drive homer, Mayberry saved him with a diving catch in the second, a questionable called third strike on McCutcheon helped him as well, but he showed pretty good command of thre pitches, but probably benefitted from the Pirates not having a book on him.

by the way, former phils #1 pick Jesse Biddle struck out 16 in 7 innings for AA Reading last night.

Nothing? Did pretty well today against the red-hot Reds lineup. ERA now at 3.00. He scatters hits but he has avoided major trouble in all of his games thus far. Haven't seen him pitch other than a few innings. Any input?
