Juan Lagares 2013 Outlook

17 posts in this topic

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets are likely to promote outfielder Juan Lagares as soon as Tuesday.[/color]

No word on the corresponding roster move, but Kirk Nieuwenhuis is most likely to be sent down. Lagares, 24, is batting .346 (27-for-78) with three home runs and nine RBI through 17 games this season with Triple-A Las Vegas. He's capable of playing all three outfield spots]

NYM Outfield is a train-wreck Is he going to stick around? Expectations?

Juan Lagares Is Legit – (Photo by Gordon Donovan) When we did our MMO Top 25 Prospects back in January, we caught some flack for including outfielder Juan Lagares at No. 21. Some of the blowback we received on Twitter and in our threads included some of these gems: Anyone can do a top ten, that’s easy. You need to really know the system to start doing top 25. Putting Lagaras anywhere on it speaks volumes. Having him at 21 is nuts. (Umm it’s Lagares, not Lagaras.) The fact you’re the only site that has him ranked in the top 25 doesn’t say much for your analysis, Lagares sucks. After we finished releasing out MMO Top 25, several other sites rolled out their own Prospect Rankings weeks later and aside from Mack’s Mets and Toby Hyde, Juan Lagares was included in everyone else’s Top 25 including Amazin Avenue, Jonathan Mayo, and John Sickels (Top 20, but had Lagares among honorable mentions). Here is our original MMO Profile: 21. Juan Lagares, OF Height: 6’1″ Weight: 175 LBS Bats/Thro...

He's most likely going to be platooned vs lefties. He's toolsy but his power hasn't really developed yet. Had 13 HRs in about 1050 the last two years as a 22 and 23 year old. He did have 35 2b/3b last year but scouting on him says he doesn't generate enough loft in his swing to get enough FBs to hit a lot of HRs. Remember, his stats this year were in the PCL....

In standard size leagues and even in deep redraft leagues, I don't think he's an add. If he forces himself into a full time gig by good play then maybe, but right now, this seems like more of an indictment on Cowgill....We'll see.

Looked into him. He is hot right now in The PCL. So it's hard to say how that will translate.

His career numbers in the minors make him look like an average bat. To his credit though he was pretty good in 2011 but regressed back to below average last year in 2012.

Reno is a hitters' paradise.

Based on numbers alone, Gerardo Parra looks like a good comp to me. But given how poorly regarded he is as a prospect (hey, #21 in the Mets' farm system is pretty poor), I'm guessing Parra is his upside.

In the minors he's shown good AVG, a touch of power, good speed, and terrible walk rates. Looking past his age 17 and age 18 seasons, his numbers have been:

.295 AVG with a .417 SLG

26 SB per 162 games

Only 31 BB per 162 games (yikes!)

The Mets should be happy if he can be Gerardo Parra.

So what's this guy about? Apparently he has the CF job.

I added him for Ozuna, but I don't know who he is at all, just that he has the most points on WW Last 7.

His minor league stats don't look all that impressive

Had a very good week 17, and was 3for 3 tonight, I picked him up over the weekend, and he is in my line-up this week, so far so good. I think he's worth picking up if you need OF help.
