No argument from me, Harvey should start for the NL at the moment... He definitely will be the NL pitcher of the month for April, but not the NL player of the month...

I'd actually been meaning to tackle this a few days ago, and Bleacher Report just posted this earlier today:

http://bleacherrepor...-representative

Here are my predictions, it's very early of course. But feel free to discuss. *=team's only selection

AL

C: Mike Napoli, Red Sox (fan vote); Joe Mauer, Twins* (manager choice); Carlos Santana, Indians*; (player vote)

1B: Prince Fielder, Tigers; (fan vote); Edwin Encarnacion, Blue Jays (player vote); Albert Pujols, LAA (manager choice)

2B: Robinson Cano, Yankees; (fan vote) Ian Kinsler, Rangers; (player vote) Jose Altuve, Astros* (manager choice)

3B: Miguel Cabrera, Tigers (fan vote); Evan Longoria, Rays* (player vote); Adrian Beltre, Rangers; (manager choice)

SS: Ben Zobrist, Rays (fan vote); Jed Lowrie, A's* (manager choice); Elvis Andrus, Rangers (player vote)

OF: Mike Trout, Angels (fan vote); Jacoby Ellsbury (fan vote); Adam Jones, Orioles; (fan vote); Torii Hunter/Austin Jackson, Tigers (manager choice); Alex Rios, White Sox* (player vote)

SP: Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Tigers; Yu Darvish, Rangers; James Shields, Royals*; Felix Hernandez, Mariners; Clay Bucholz, Red Sox; David Price, Rays

Mariano Rivera, Yankees; Casey Janssen, Blue Jays*; Jim Johnson, Orioles; Tom Wilhemsen, Mariners

Final Player Vote Candidates: The AL shapes up to be a vote between big name vets. **=my pick

Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox; Yoenis Cespedes, A's; David Ortiz, Red Sox**; Billy Butler, KC;

Snubbed (either for performance or skill level, etc.): Manny Machado, Chris Davis, Orioles; Jon Lester, Red Sox; Chris Sale, CHW; Alex Gordon, KC; Hisashi Iwakuma, Mariners

Breakdown: ANA-(2); BAL-(2); BOS-(2); CHW-(1); CLE-(1); DET-(6); HOU-(1); KAN-(1); LAA-(1); MIN-(1); NYY-(2); OAK-(2); SEA-(2); TB-(3); TEX-(4); TOR-(2)

Notes: The AL SS ballot is UGLY. I'm not sure if Zobrist will be listed there, either. I'm basing this on his being included, but I'd alter my predictions obviously if he were not. I have a feeling Alexei Ramirez winds up representing the White Sox, call it a hunch.

Also the likely 3rd winner of the OF fan vote is a little tough to predict, I went with Ellsbury based on the early Red Sox performance.

I badly wanted to snub Pujols but my guess is he'll still be there. I'm not sure when the actual ballots come out, but I could almost see him being a finalist in the final spot vote (which he'd win), but also I'm sure he'd be injury-replaced, so they'll just name him to the squad and put in someone else.

Still finishing up NL guesses. Feel free to discuss any omissions.

NL

C: Buster Posey, Giants (fan vote); Yadier Molina, Cards (player vote); Wilin Rosario (manager choice)

1B: Joey Votto, Reds (fan vote); Paul Goldschmidt, Dbacks* (manager choice) Adrian Gonzalez, Dodgers (player vote);

2B: Chase Utley, Phillies* (fan vote); Brandon Phillips, Reds (player vote);

3B: David Wright, Mets (fan vote); Chase Headley, Padres* (manager choice); Pablo Sandoval (Giants)

SS: Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies (fan vote); Starlin Castro, Cubs* (manager choice); Ian Desmond, Nats (player vote)

OF: Ryan Braun, Brewers* (fan vote); Carlos Gonzalez, Rockies (fan vote); Bryce Harper, Nationals (fan vote); Justin Upton, Braves; (player vote); Andrew McCutchen, Pirates (player vote); Hunter Pence, Giants (manager choice)

SP: Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers; Kevin Slowey, Marlins*; Matt Harvey, Mets; Stephen Strasburg, Nationals; Adam Wainwright, Cards; Cliff Lee, Phillies; Matt Cain, Giants; Madison Bumgarner, Giants

RP: Sergio Romo, Giants; Aroldis Chapman, Reds; Craig Kimbrel, Braves; Jason Grilli, Pirates

Final player vote candidates: The NL should be a bunch of young guns with bright futures.

Anthony Rizzo, Cubs; Shin-Shoo Choo, Reds, Starling Marte, Pirates; Mat Latos, Reds

Snubbed: Jean Segura, Brewers; Matt Kemp, Dodgers; regardless of his turnaround, Bochy won't put him on the team if he doesn't have to; Giancarlo Stanton, MIA; AJ Burnett, PIT; Jordan Zimmerman, WAS

Lastly, of course...Kevin Gregg :)

Breakdown: ARZ-(1); ATL-(2); CHC-(1); CIN-(3); COL-(3); LAD-(2); MIA-(1); MIL-(1); NYM-(2); PHI-(2); PIT-(2); SD-(1); SF-(6); STL-(2); WAS-(3);

Notes: There's no depth at NL 2B, and it's a shame because NL SS is very strong. Starlin Castro thus far is not deserving of a nod at SS, but may still get it as the Cubs rep. Just as the AL 2B logjam will lead to some snubs at that spot, there seems no way this position is well-represented.

It will take a turnaround, but I'm sure Bruce Bochy will try hard to put Matt Cain on the staff. So, that's my spiel, anyone beg to differ?

Napoli isn't going to get any fan votes for catcher. If Boston fans vote for him as a "homer" it will be for 1B. He isn't a catcher anymore. At least not with the Red Sox. Farell said before the game tonight that with Ross sitting out after the collision with Middlebrooks that if Salty had to leave the game, Gomes would be the emergency catcher. Don't know if this is because of fear of messing with that iffy hip but Sox won't allow Napoli to catch period. Lot of fantasy owners are going to be upset next year cause of this.

I think Jordan Zimmerman will be there. Gotta throw in Carlos Beltran & Carlos Gomez too. If Everth Cabrera pulls his average up some he could have an outside shot.

Yes Beltran and Carlos Gomez were strong considerations, I should have squeezed Gomez in for sure. Took me awhile to compile all this, it's a rough sketch obviously. I also see Cabrera having an outside shot, indeed, which would make him the lone Padre and squeeze Headley out. Ryan Zimmerman might be the beneficiary of that, because if I had to guess which Zimm had a better shot, I'd say Ryan, as crazy as it sounds. I just think Jordan Zimmerman is going to be a ridiculous snub this year, until he's an IR replacement.

Remember, there's the "Sunday before the break" rule now, so this is all contingent on who goes-and most contending teams will try to slot their aces in there. So even though Kershaw should start the game, likely it winds up being Bumgarner.

What is the Sunday before the break rule

Any starter who pitches the Sunday game before All-star week is ineligible to pitch. I'm predicting the Dodgers pitch Kershaw that game, and Bochy snubs Harvey and puts Bumgarner or Cain in there to start. If not one of them, maybe Wainwright? No way Matt Harvey gets to start it, which would be awesome...but hopefully he'll be able to pitch, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Mets lined him up for that Sunday game as well.

Obviously there's a two months until a decision is made but Harvey or Jzim would be the picks to start if the game was tomorrow.

Right, Cain is the guy who would snub Zimmerman, so I'm just supposing he turns it around and Bochy puts him in there. It would be criminal but it could happen. I am sure Zimmerman will be on the team...but can you see any scenario where he makes it and Strasburg doesn't? I don't, in all honesty.

I love Stras but he hasn't been all star worthy this year. Plenty of time for him to turn it around but Jzim has been way better.

I explained I was filling my ballot out from the actual manager's perspectives. It's not hard to figure out...I had Austin Jackson and Torii Hunter in the AL, not because they stand out (although they are legitimately in the conversation) but because their manager will put one or both on the team. Cain is gonna be there, my friend. Wasn't Lincecum on the squad with a subpar first half a couple years back? I said, it would be criminal, but it could happen. Shelby Miller and AJ Burnett are sure to be snubbed.

I can't believe they already have started all-star voting. granted making the MLB all-star isn't exactly a huge challenge with the giant roster and one guy from every team having to be on it, but it's only been what, 5 weeks of baseball?

I bet Jeter gets the nod in AL to start at SS
