Blockbuster in an NL only

$200 auction nl only roto

I'm in second place near the top in all categories besides saves and steals. Keep in mind it's a keeper league so I put in the values.

I give strasburg 34, Matt carpenter 13, miller 16, Fernandez 6

I get choo 26, Pierre 14, bumgarner 26, papelbon 26, gio 29, rendon 6

Obviously it's a move that would really propel me up in saves and steals while not killing me in the other categories. But i am giving up a ton of keeper value. With miller and fernandez likely to be shut down i would be relying heavily on these relievers in a league that doesn't count holds. My team currently is...

C Rosario

1 carpenter

2 uggla

3 Zimmerman

SS simmons

OF Stanton

OF parra

OF heyward

Util belt

Ben pagan

Ben yelich

Dl hart

P- stras, Miley, Fernandez, miller, leake, eovaldi

R- Jansen, Henderson, brothers, melancon, Hernandez, league

Would you make this trade to go all in on this year or would you think i should hold steady being dead last in steals and in the bottom half of saves ?

id hold on to what i have. Bumgarner, gio, pierre, and rendon are far from sure bets. Miller, strasburg, fernandez, and even carpenter have proven more consistant. hes selling high on his guys and you could get stung bad by that

You're not giving up that much keeper value. I would put Rendon's keeper value @ $6 similar to Fernandez. In fact, they are very similar in that their upside for 2013 is limited by playing time, while 2014 the sky's the limit. Carpenter and Miller are nice keepers, but not stud keepers at those prices.

However, I wouldn't make the deal. You are giving up the best SP in the deal. Miller and Fernandez might equal Bumgarner for the rest of the season when you add up their combined IP, but Strasburg >> Gio. The upgrade to Choo vs. Carpenter is good, but not huge. I'd say that:

Strasburg + Carpenter > Choo + Gio, although it's close.

That leaves you with Papelbon. Essentially, Paps is what you get for giving up Miller and Carpenter's future value. Pierre will stop playing in a month once Yelich is called up. He should probably stop now.

You have three closers. Do you need a fourth?

Well I assume brothers is limited and Henderson seems to be behind krod.

If gio and stras were out of this trade would it be better? The only think really holding me up is future value. If the future value is mediocre then is do the trade to win this year

If Papelbon is traded to the AL, what happens? Get his stats ROS or lose him?

Papelbon would keep his nl status for the year

New trade has been proposed.

I give carpenter Fernandez miller and parra

I get gio bumgarner papelbon and choo

I like this deal because it really helps me this year though I give up the keeper value for next.

Salary on Parra? On its face it looks pretty good.

Parra for Choo is excellent.

Fernandez for Gio is very good given Fernandez's innings cap.

Carpenter for Paps is very good; I expect Carpenter to regress a bit.

Miller for Bumgarner stings a bit, but you have to do it given Miller's likely innings cap.

But if Parra is $1 keepable through 2015, then I might think otherwise. It's not a slam dunk. Also, which hitter do you have to fill in for Carpenter, and which pitcher do you have to drop? Those matter.
