FantasyFiend 78 Posted June 22, 2013 Per CBS Esmil Rogers' return to the starting rotation has been a success so far, with his last two starts in particular attracting the attention of Fantasy owners, but judging by his numbers with the Rockies earlier in his career, it has to be smoke and mirrors, right? I wouldn't be so sure. Any pitcher who throws 95-plus miles per hour and commands the strike zone has a chance to be successful, but the aspect of Rogers' arsenal that intrigues me the most is the same one Blue Jays players and coaches keep raving about: the sink on his fastball. Everyone knows batted balls travel farther in the thin air of Coors Field, but that's not the only reason it's a hitter's haven. The high altitude also reduces the movement on pitches, making sinking fastballs straight and hittable. Mike Hampton tried changing his arm slot to compensate for his loss of movement after signing with the Rockies in 2001, and we all know how that turned out. Who's to say Rogers didn't get in some bad habits of his own while pitching for the Rockies? His stuff suggests he's better than his numbers. I'm not saying I'm ready to shove him in my lineup or anything, but I'm intrigued. Opinions for deep leaguers? This Blue Jays team has been red hot as well might be a start of something here with Rogers
Vagos_scp 28 Posted June 22, 2013 He's looked amazing. His new pitch he's developed his sinking FB has look nasty. Combined with his already pretty good breaking pitches and FB, and he's been tough lately. He's on the watchlist, but Jays have got a tough schedule coming up so I'm staying put for now. mpbaseball22 1,249 Posted June 22, 2013 Did well vs tex twice, no hit the rockies into the 6th, maybe not an option in a 12 team but in my 16 team league with deep rosters im excited for his future

Weekend @ Bernie's 11 Posted July 1, 2013 He's really looking good with that sinking FB he's got! I'm watching him closely...
motown magic 521 Posted July 2, 2013 I grabbed him just before his start a week ago. Got rocked. But I decided to give him another game. Glad I did. Looked great . And getting run support from a healthy Jays team. They are going to be tough to beat.
bmay 87 Posted July 6, 2013 How did his start against DET look? Stat line makes it seem like he was BABIP'ed to hell and a groundball pitcher on Rogers Centre turf makes that seem possible...
Travis_Fryman#17 136 Posted July 19, 2013 I think he's a great play in those CBS leagues where he is an SP/RP. Seems to have decent job security on a team that will score runs, and he misses some bats. Worth a roster spot in 10-teamers just for the RP 2-start weeks. ironmike128 17 Posted September 11, 2013 Rogers hasn't allowed a run over 14 innings in his last two starts. That got my attention enough to add him for my Playoff run in an 18 team league. Not sure if I'd dump anybody decent for him in 10-12 team leagues though. Someone to definitely keep an eye on, especially if his new pitch becomes an out-pitch.
