Marlon Byrd 2013 Outlook

41 posts in this topic

Byrd has been raking for the past month. He plays everyday and bats 4th in the Mets lineup. Worth an add in deeper leagues

Was just about to start a thread about him. I have always been a big fan of Marlon and snatched him up this year as a reserve player in a deep NL only league thinking the Mets had zero outfield depth and Marlon could put up 10-15 HRs, 60rbis and bat .270-.280. He has obviously far exceeded anyone's expectations.

Byrd has testified positive for a PED before and he was linked to VIctor Conte in the past so I don't know if his "breakout" year is legit or not and wouldn't be shocked if he tests positive one of these days, but i'm enjoying the ride while it lasts.

I find it a little strange that Byrd and Ibanez have similar stats but percentage owned is so different. Ibanez is now owned in 100% of ESPN leagues and Byrd is owned in about 35%. Ibanez only has 7 more home runs than Byrd but Byrd has Ibanez in average by about 10 and have similar runs and RBI.

Also, Byrd is better on the ESPN player rater in PR7, PR15 and PR30,

Not saying that Byrd should be owned by 100% of teams but, I'm surprised that these two are so far apart that these two are separated by so much because they are both questionable players to own because of age and weak lineups. Byrd should definitely be owned in some more leagues IMO

Forgot to put in the best/worst moves so far thread that one of my worst moves was dropping Byrd back in June. So stupid.

Picked up Bryd when his own percentage was at 4%. Been riding his month plus long hot streak. Best player on my team recently.

he has the most RBIs of any player on my team. That's pretty awesome... but also pretty sad... for my team.

good lord, how did I have no idea he was playing this well??

Just added immediately, Cespedes, welcome to my bench.

Shocked that a) I haven't noticed it, and B) that he was still available.

Byrd has been slumping since David Wright went on the DL. No protection behind him and no one on in front of him.

It was nice while it lasted.

That and he was playing wildly over his head.

Hitting better the last week. Actually a triple short of a cycle tonight, although I doubt he's got the legs to run out a three-bagger.

Didn't get it, but he did K impressively :P

With three multi-hit games in the last 6 days he might have benefited from the day off he had. If Collins thinks a break is good for him, watch lineups carefully. He might be a "5-6 games out of 7" from here. If it means he gets back to hitting consistently, I'm all for it.

it concerns me that the big slump at the start of the month occured during all home games for the Mets.

and now his hot streak started immediately when the road trip began. With the Mets returning home for next week, I'm a little worried that he'll go cold again.

Then again, he's been producing all year, home and away, so I might just be reading into things too much.

Just traded to the Pirates along with Buck. No word yet on what they got in return.

Is there room that OF for Byrd?

That's my question, too. They have three capable CFs (Cutch, Marte, Tabata), and even with Marte hurt, Lambo and Pie are okay with the glove. I guess they needed that push for the postseason—there's never too much firepower. It could've also been to block another team (The Reds maybe? Although they just got Ludwick back...).

The Mets have received 2B Dilson Herrera (he's in SALLY right now) and a PTBNL. Pretty low-risk move for both sides, considering Byrd is a FA after this year, but I can't say I'm too excited about a light-hitting MI with a 37/100 BB/K ratio in 479 PAs at the A-level.

I don't see how you sit the guy with the season he is having. Lambo might get sent back down to make room. What are the beat writers saying PIt fans?
