Samardzija/Wheeler for Phillips?

4 posts in this topic

Well, should I do it? It's a keeper league but I am not going to have an open slot for Wheeler, and he and Samardzija are kind of the bottom tier of my pitching along with Bud.

I'd do it in a shallow keeper like yours, but not in a dynasty. Assuming that you only keep 5, & that you're presumably going to keep 5 of Davis, EE, Stanton, Machado, Mad-Bum, Sale & J-Zimm, & that you could really use a 2B upgrade & that Phillips will keep on racking up a ton of RBIs hitting cleanup in that sweet spot between Votto & Bruce, yeah, I would absolutely make this trade. You won't even come close to considering Shark & Wheeler as keepers & you have a great SP rotation as it is. This is a great move for you.

Thanks for the feedback. I offered the deal and it was accepted about a half hour ago. The way the league works is we have a max of 6 keepers, and I only have 1 slot open for this year, and that is going to be filled by Davis. My other 5 keepers are Sale, Zimmermann, Bumgarner, Machado, and Encarnacion. Guys like Stanton, Phillips, CC, etc can't be kept because of where they went in the draft (can't keep anyone drafted in the first 3 rounds) - so the trade should be evaluated strictly on a rest of 2013 basis.

Come playoff time, I still have my 3 keeper pitchers, CC, Anibal Sanchez, Garza, Cain, and Peavy to choose from - we start 6 SP's per week - so I think I was more than capable of dealing these 2 to improve at 2B.
