Kelly Olynyk 2013-2014 Season Outlook

76 posts in this topic

Didn't see a thread for this guy - he had an amazing summer league playing stretch four - hit lotsa threes, showed great moves inside and played decent D

rotoworld has him listed as starter at center maybe he plays there (a great mismatch on O but he will get killed defensively) and don't Bass, Green, Sullinger and Humphries all need big man minutes too?

I'm optimistic saying 13/7 with 1.5 3's and good % what do you guys project?

His value entirely depends on whether Stevens is willing to play him at center. Ideally he's a stretch-4, but Boston has a tremendous logjam at PF for now (although I'm willing to bet they have some more moves before training camp). Like you said, with Bass, Sullinger, and Humphries around, with Green/Wallace being able to slide down if need be, minutes will be hard to project. That being said, Olynyk's fantasy game will prove to be interesting. Although he's a big, his unique skill set allows him to offer fantasy owners steals and three's, which is quite atypical for a PF/C. But again, it all boils down to how Boston approaches its frontcourt situation.

Right now the Celtics' center situation looks like a waste of fantasy space. Olynyk if they decide to play him at C will basically not look like any other teams' starting center. His best case would be a Al Horford who doesn't have as much muscle, but with bettter range. That's not too bad, but I doubt he will be of too much value. Never really seen a skinny center come in and dominate. Even Anthony Davis who is a superior athlete and defender played PF instead (which seems like a permanent move). I like him the best out of all the celtics' PFs right now, and things could change once the season starts, but the first couple years will probably be a big ol mess with them for now. Platoons galore. Small ball with PFs masquerading as C's. I'm thinking even Humphries will get stints as the center. Wow this is matchup heaven for the opposing team!

This will be one of the situations that I closely monitor in preseason. BOS has nothing to play for in 13-14 and I can't see them not wanting to tank to try to secure a top 5 pick in the 2014 draft. The problem is that they might be too competitive with a line-up of PG - Rondo, SG - Bradley, SF - Green, PF - Bass, C - Humphries. I expect BOS to move Rondo, with the kicker being that the team has to accept GWallace as part of the deal. If and when this happens, it will be full tank mode for BOS. Then I see Olynyk getting major minutes at both PF/C. He has the potential to be a better version of CFrye from his 9-10 & 10-11 seasons, which is basically a top 40 player.

he had a good game yesterday.

He also fouled out and has racked up fouls. I think Kelly has a legit shot at 12 & 8 with good %'s, and for how late he is going, he is certianly worth a flier. He will need to get his fouls under control, and it would be nice if he used his 7 foot frame to actually get some blocks.

Thought I would bump this one up after tonight's game. So far he has played more minutes than anyone except Jeff Green, signs are pointing up and his minutes have been trending up in the recent few games! Let's hope for a keeper those who jumped on.

Is this the Celtic that looks like Teen Wolf??

Looks like the kid on Dazed and Confused - the one that touches his nose at an annoyingly alarming rate.

i know he was killing it in summer league with only like 24mins, but i'm thinking his ceiling for this year with 32mins is

15pts, 7rebs, 1.5stls on 50FG%

i would temper expectations to 28mins and

12pts, 6rebs, 1.0stls on 47FG%

not that exciting but serviceable in deep leagues
