Anyone think he can claim closing duties somewhere? According to RW, he will be signing soon.

I imagine whoever signs him would want to get him in some minor leagues games first. But ya, he could probably take the closer spot on a few teams.

When do we add him? Too early?

The likelihood is very small.

Not surprising that he's throwing hard. But generally the toughest thing to regain after TJ surgery is control, not velocity. And Wilson already was not a control guy. I don't see him being very effective this year.

Then you need to weigh how many teams are in the hunt that would sign him & he'd close for. PIT if they want Melancon back in set up? Maybe? He wouldn't come in and close over Benoit or Uehara.

Basically there's almost no chance this guy is fantasy relevant this season. I get that everyone wants to hit on a lotto ticket, but this isn't it. Go grab Strop, Bastardo, or Cisnero and hope for a trade.

I'm a little more optimistic that some about Wilson's chances of closing somewhere this year and what value he could end up having for fantasy owners. All indications from scouts he's thrown for are that he's game ready, or nearly game ready. If he was wild and shaky, we'd be hearing about it.

Even if he throws great, which team(s) would he close for?

Hell, if the Giants were willing to do the smart thing and trade Romo for SP then they'd make a ton of sense. But they won't so it's a moot point.

Latest from RW has the Pirates and Diamondbacks very interested. He could very well end up closing on either one of those teams.

He did receive 5 offers, so there is interest.

I would have added Detroit to that list before they acquired Veras. Leyland likes Benoit in setup, so sliding Wilson in to close would have fit. But with Veras in it no doubt takes DET out of the equation.

@gambo620

Diamondbacks not in on free agent reliever Brian Wilson who had Tommy John surgery in April of 2012

Maybe a good stash for Kenley owners but I can't see Wilson closing.

Wilson setting up for Kenley. Nice.

I can see him closing if he's healthy. Mattingly makes some curious decisions.

Why would they do that when Kenley is 100% and stellar? No way Wilson can be better than Kenley this year.

Some managers prefer to use their best arm whenever necessary instead of locking him into the 9th.

I don't envision this happening, but that would be why.

Yep. I'm not going to bet on that happening but it wouldn't really shock me if Wilson worked his way into the closing gig while Jansen fell back into the fireman role.

Kenley has already proven to be a jack of all trades. 7th, 8th, 9th inning, he get's guys out. He's a flat out boss.

Wilson is a closer by trade, and as we all very well know, a lot of closers suffer from a "save situation tunnel vision" type disorder. Whether it is purely a mental thing, needing the "save situation" adrenaline, or whatever reason to be effective... a lot of 9th inning guys simply s--- the bed when not in a save situation.

As we all know, closers with success in the past get a lot of respect from managers, as well as given every opportunity to succeed. As good as Kenley has been, my bet is on Wilson eventually taking over 9th inning duties.

We'll see.

Wilson hasn't pitched in the MLB in close to two years. He has a long way to go before he's taking the ball in the 9th for anyone. Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen in the immediate future. Very doubtful.

Jansen's been lights out and Mattingly's pretty loyal...

As a Dodger fan, I'm stoked about adding Brian Wilson to our bullpen!

Brian Wilson will initially set up for Kenley Jansen when called up by the Dodgers in mid-August, reports @TBrownYahoo.

He's a month away from closing unless Jansen gets injured or melts down.....if he ever does this season.

Tentative plan with Brian Wilson is to begin return at Dodgers complex in Arizona. Then to Rancho Cucamonga. Report to Dodgers in 2 weeks.

Looking for a closer in a few leagues, I'm disappointed B.Wilson signed with the Dodgers. As others have suggested and theorized, there's ZERO chance he closes unless Jansen gets hurt.
