2013 Rotoworld Championships (League A)

Recommended Posts

Inactive teams ruin a league, especially since he plays you and mbroo5880i in the last 2 weeks and both will be guaranteed wins in a potentially close race to make the playoffs.

Those games are no different that the ones in which teams have already been gifted victories against Winky and any of the other teams that have neglected to set their lineup. Only difference is the time of season that it occurs. Teams in the playoff race have already reaped the benefits of this issue.

I agree with everything that has been said about inactive teams. holy browns may be 1-9, but he sets his lineup every week and picks up free agents he thinks will help his team. I would love to have holy browns be a part of League A next year. If he didn't quit on the league this year, we know he never will. Those are exactly the type of owners we need.

For the record, there is a flex schedule for Week 14. It goes based on total points. So the highest scoring team after 13 weeks (likely brockpapersizer) will play the lowest scoring team in the league (Finally Detroit Wins). Second highest vs 13th (Senator Spaceman vs. Winy as of now). And so on.

Lucky Dog of the Week:

Things have a way of working themselves out. Last week, I was the Tough Luck Loser of the Week. This week, I'm the Lucky Dog of the Week. Eli Manning totalled 137 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Lamar Miller ran the ball 7 times for 2 yards (it's okay, he had 9 receiving yards). And while the Saints put up 49 on Dallas, both Garrett Hartley and Jimmy Graham had their second-worst games of the year. Still, I played Winky who had Tom Brady on a bye in his starting lineup and so I didn't need a strong performance this week to snap my five-game losing streak.

Tough Luck Loser of the Week:

Russell Wilson (307 total yards, 2 TDs) put in yet another solid effort, and Le'Veon Bell's 96 yards and a touchdown were his best game since his season debut in Week 4. Unfortunately, holyBrowns ran into Drew Brees and brockpapersizer this week.

King of the Week:

RAZRr1275 (132.3) remains atop the standings with a dominating, all-around performance. Led by the Rams defense annihilating Indianapolis; Riley Cooper (102 yards, TD), Case Keenum (203 yards, 3 TDs), Pierre Garcon (119 yards, TD), and LeSean McCoy (161 yards) all played great and put RAZRr1275 on the verge of clinching a playoff spot.

Lucky Dog of the Week:

Let this be a lesson to everyone, if your defense is facing Peyton Manning, don't start them. brockpapersizer found this out the hard way as the Chiefs defense (still the #1 fantasy defense even after this week) put up negative points in a game where brockpapersizer would've won had he not played a defense at all. sportsguy21792 was the beneficiary of the rare down week for brockpapersizer, lef by the Bills defense and Matt Ryan's (254 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) first multi-touchdown game in four weeks. Dwayne Bowe led sportsguy21792 in yards from scrimmage with 57.

Tough Luck Loser of the Week:

Calvin Johnson and mbroo5880i put a stop to RAZRr1275's 5-game winning streak. A huge game from LeSean McCoy (150 yards, 2 TDs) wasn't enough to clinch a playoff spot for RAZRr1275 this week, but RAZRr1275 still has first place all to himself and his next victory guarantees him entry into the playoffs. Although it sounds easy for the first place team to simply avoid a four-game losing streak to end the regular season, RAZRr1275's next two opponents are second place SenatorSpaceman (8-3) and third place phizzics (8-3) before he's matched up against his flex opponent in Week 14 which would be holyBrowns (2-9) if the season ended today.

King of the Week:

It's not often a team in League B gets recognition in the weekly writeups. But mpbaseball22 has been extraordinary lately, having been the highest scoring team in League B for three of the past four weeks. It's not a surprise with the top QB and WR in the league on his team. An ankle injury may have slowed down Manning as he threw for a season low, one touchdown. But that didn't stop Manning, as he extended his own NFL record by passing for 290 yards for the 13th straight week. Antonio Brown had a big game for mpbaseball22 (138.2) with 139 yards and two touchdowns, only to be outdone by Calvin Johnson's 179 yards and two touchdowns. There is no doubt at this point that mpbaseball22 is the odd-on favorite to win League B and earn the promotion into League A next year.

Stupid Denver running game. All I needed was an average game from Peyton and Decker and I would've won this week, but they both were terrible. Looks like my slim hopes of the playoffs are gone now :(

There's a good chance that three teams will have nine wins by the end of the night. If so, that last playoff spot will be hotly contested.

Lucky Dog of the Week:

Although not the monstrous game he had last week, Tavon Austin had his second straight big game with 104 yards and a touchdown. Cam Newton rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown as ToO_BaD kept his playoff hopes alive thanks almost exclusively to those two players.

Tough Luck Loser of the Week:

Jimmy Graham had 100 yards for the sixth time this season and caught his 11th TD reception for RotoRanker, but nobody on the team was able to match the monstrous output of Josh Gordon and holyBrowns.

King of the Week:

Philip Rivers' 392 passing yards and 3 touchdowns proved beyond any doubt that Rivers is one of the top quarterbacks in fantasy football once again. But it was Josh Gordon (237 yards, TD) who refused to let holyBrowns lose this week (he didn't care as much if the actual Browns lost). Gordon is the #2 fantasy WR since his return in Week 3 this year.

23) Finally Detroit Wins

Lucky Dog of the Week:

After starting off the season hot, Tony Romo has just four touchdowns in his past three games and is averaging under 200 yards passing. Eddie Lacy and Pierre Thomas combined for 14 rushes for 16 yards. Yet at the end of the day, Naruto347 came away with his 6th victory of the season.

Tough Luck Loser of the Week:

FinallyDetroitWins has been the worst team in the entire Rotoworld Champipnships this year. Despite a big performance from Ben Tate, he lost his fifth straight to baltimore_boy.

King of the Week:

Sometimes fantasy football just isn't fair. That was the case this week for JohnRuck whose team, led by DeMarco Murray (102 yards, 3 TDs), scored the second most points in League B this week. Which brings us to his opponent, the Week 13 King of the Week. When Adrian Peterson rushes for 211 yards and is the fourth highest scoring player on your offense, you know you had a monster week. Cam Newton (331 total yards, 3 TDs), Ben Tate (192 yards, 3 TDs) were outstanding for fredrick.brewer. But it was Josh Gordon (261 yards, 2 TDs), who became the only player in NFL history with back-to-back 200 yard games, that played the biggest role in fredrick.brewer clinching Leagu B's final playoff spot.

Lucky Dog of the Week:

It wasn't pretty. By definition, the Lucky Dog of the Week never is. The Carolina Defense played their worst game of the year. The two best players for SenatorSpaceman, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Andy Dalton, were left on his bench. But it didn't matter, SenatorSpaceman had earned the right to play last-place Winky so he didn't need a big week to earn the victory and lock up the #1 overall seed. DeMarco Murray's 155 yards led Senator Spaceman to his sixth straight victory.

Tough Luck Loser of the Week:

Ben Roethlisberger (357 combined yards, 3 TDs) and Marques Colston (125 yards, 2 TDs). Jimmy Graham added two more touchdowns to add to his league lead 14. His five multi-receiving touchdown games is tied for the sixth most such games in NFL season (NFL record is Randy Moss' 8 multi-touchdown games in 2007). But despite the strong effort, RotoRanker fell to Peyton Manning and baltimore_boy.

King of the Week:

Drew Brees threw for 4 touchdowns for the fourth time this season and passed for over 300 yards for the ninth time, both second in the NFL behind Peyton Manning. The Chiefs Defense, who have scored negative points over the past two weeks (although two of those weeks were against Denver), returned to what we expect out of the #1 fantasy defense. Kansas City scored their tenth touchdown of the year, giving them four more touchdowns than the second best team. It's only fitting that Drew Brees and the Chiefs Defense lead brockpapersizer, the highest scoring team in the Rotoworld Championships this year, to be the King of the Week in the final week of the regular season. Along with being the highest scoring team in the league, brockpapersizer faced the second easiest schedule this year, a perfect recipe for earning the #1 seed. The fact that brockpapersizer didn't even mzke the playoffs this year just goes to show anything can happen in head to head fantasy sports.

It all comes down to this. In League B, we have #2 fantasypro123 (Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy, Dez Bryant) going up against #1 mpbaseball22 (Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, Antonio Brown). These have been the two best teams all season long and it's only right they face each other for entrance into League A. Whoever makes it into League A next year will have earned their spot.

And then there's League A. In Round 1, SenatorSpaceman was able to knock off mbroo5880i thanks to big games from DeMarco Murray (153 yards, TD) and DeSean Jackson (195 yards, TD). It was a tough battle as Matthew Stafford (235 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT) and Ray Rice (64 yards) had poor showings. Demaryius Thomas (45 yards) also had his worst performance of the season. But in the end, SenatorSpaceman advances to the Championship to face phizzics.

phizzics is the second highest scoring team in the Rotoworld Championships this year and last week he showed why with a dominating performance in the semifinals over RAZRr1275. Kirk Cousins passed for nearly 400 yards and three touchdowns and Greg Jennings topped 100 yards for the first time since leaving the Packers. But it was Jamaal Charles (215 yards, 5 TDs) who deserves all the attention.

Charles became the only player in NFL history to have 4 receiving touchdowns in a game and rush for another touchdown. Charles is further establishing himself not only as the best runningback in the game today, but as one of the greatest runningbacks of all-time. No other player in NFL history has ever rushed for 4000 yards in their first 6 seasons in the league and maintained a rushing average of over 5.5 yards per carry.

Good luck!

Down by 16 with Gore and SF D still to play. Care to guess which side I'm rooting for in tonight's game?

It's going to be close...

Lol, it's looking good for you phiz. I hate myself for taking out Manny Sanders at the zero hour. I've rolled with the exact same lineup all season, with Sanders stepping in when Wayne went down (my only significant injury). All that talk about 6 inches of snow in GB got to me. Of course it wouldn't have hurt if I switched up my QBs, since Dalton posted 30+ on my bench. But I ain't mad about that since I never seriously considered starting Big Red.

Assuming you win, I hope you end up blowing me out. It'll be hard to look myself in the mirror if I lose by less than 5.5 points (the difference between Sanders and Caldwell).

Anyway, good luck tonight. And to everybody else, it was a great season and I hope to see all of you back next season (excluding WInky, FDW, and anybody else who abandoned their team).

I don't know Spaceman. I'm thinking Gore gets used only as much as necessary and Atlanta can throw points on the board. Wouldn't surprise me at all to find Gates vs. Cook coming back to bite me. I spent the whole season scoring barely enough to win (except for last week) and that kind of luck doesn't last forever.

Good luck...it's down to the wire!

Great season phizzics, congrats. You put together a terrific team with two top 10 RBs and a top 5 WR, but nabbing Jamaal Charles with the #4 overall pick turned out to be the most important pick of the entire draft.

Final 2013 Standings:

1) phizzics (13-3, 1550.2 total points)

2) SenatorSpaceman (12-4, 1489.8)

3) RAZRr1275 (11-5, 1461.4)

4) scienergy (10-6, 1417)

5) mbroo5880i (9-7, 1455.4)

6) brockpapersizer (9-7, 1550.9)

7) baltimore_boy (9-7, 1406.6)

8) ToO_BaD (8-8, 1273.4)

9) RotoRanker (7-9, 1431.8)

10) holyBrowns (6-10, 1401.8)

11) sportsguy21792 (6-10, 1256)

12) SurlyRobot (5-11, 1315.9)

13) Finally Detroit Wins (5-11, 1098.1)

14) Winky (2-14, 1053.7)

Thanks to all the great owners this year for making this a fun and enjoyable league. Hopefully I see most of you next year.

I just want to take a moment to talk about brockpapersizer's enigmatic team. He finished as the points leader, and didn't even make the playoffs. This despite him having the easiest schedule in the entire league (opponent's averaged just 77.6 points per week agianst him). He won King of the Week five times, including three straight from Weeks 4-6. This is an amazing feat that I'm not sure will ever be equaled. However, as great as brockpapersizer could be at times this year, the owner who drafted Arian Foster with his #1 pick was wildly inconsistent. Every week, he scored either less than 90 points or more than 115. In his losses, he averaged just 76.2 points with two losses coming by a combined 0.6 points. In his wins, he averaged 113.0 points with an average margin of victory of 41 points.

Obviously Brock was very quite upset about missing the playoffs (which is evident in his multiple posts on the message board, reminding us that he has the most points scored) but you make some good points here. To get to the playoffs in a league as competitive as this one, you can't have many sub-par weeks. While Brock lit up the scoreboard in a handful of games, he had a number of games where he scored below the mean league average of points.

This is often the case in fantasy football and that's why it's usually not a travesty when a high scoring team misses out on a playoff spot. As great as his team was (and they were head and shoulders above the pack in some weeks), the fact that Brock also had the league's least challenging schedule indicates that they maybe weren't as consistent as some of the squads that made it further into the season.

Winning in fantasy football isn't always about scoring a ton of overall points (even though it obviously helps). Especially in deeper leagues, I'd say it's more important to score enough points to win, as frequently as possible.
