Ben Roethlisberger 2013 Season Outlook

33 posts in this topic

Wow. No Big Ben thread until now. He's got a similar situation to Tom Brady's...may not have his top TE to begin the season, lost his big-play guy (Wallace) and is breaking in at least one rookie (Wheaton). Not to mention, the running game will be suspect even when Bell gets back, as nobody really knows how he'll transition into the NFL. Your projections probably aren't far off though.

They figure to throw the ball a lot, which in turn in fantasy should mean some big numbers. Being one dimensional will lead to some clunkers in terms of big INT games. But overall I think Big Ben is a great value this year in fantasy football.

Not to change topic at hand but I was at work today and my buddy goes like: "Hey you know whos going to be an MVP this year? "Ive got a sleeper!" Im like who? "He was like Big Ben"...I just look at him and SHAKE MY f***EN HEAD, but anyway...Big Ben is my backup to Luck in my other league. I see him having a good year this year, all tho not anything close to MVP type-a-numbers.

He had a solid preseason.. Roto says

He finishes the preseason 22-of-33 for 268 yards (8.12 yards per attempt), one touchdown and one pick. Playing behind a rag-tag line, an aging Roethlisberger isn't a great bet to appear in all 16 games, but is an ideal QB2/plug-and-play QB1.

How do you think he will do week one vs Tennesee?

Big Bens stats Against Tennesee

2012: 24/40completions..363yds.. 1td.. 1int.. 14yd rush

2011: 24/34completions.. 228yds.. 5td.. 1int.. 0 yd rush

2009: 33/43completions.. 363yds.. 1td.. 2int.. 3yd rush

Overall.. hes been putting up pretty good number in the past. Now I have a hard decision to make. Start Ben or my QB1 (Cam Newton vs Seahawks) for week 1.

Big Ben is criminally underrated this year.

Last year he was the #12 overall QB on a PPG basis in -1 per INT and 4 points per throwing TD leagues. In -2 per INT leagues he was #10 overall. If you take out the Chiefs game where he left at halftime with an injury (PPaG) he was the #9 overall QB in both formats.

He will be good and post very respectable numbers (think 5-8 among QBs) until he gets hurt and plays through the nagging injuries. Each of the last two seasons he struggled at the end playing through injury.

I feel really bad for him.. the running back play has been absolutely horrible so far today. Making it very hard for Ben.

The offense just looked bad no running game, sacks, and overall he looked uncomfortable. maybe when bell comes back and they get a running game that will improve.

Steelers are a sinking ship. That line is just in shambles. Brown and Sanders will probably still have good PPR value given the fact that they will probably have to throw a ton of slants and screens, and be playing from behind a lot because they are so awful. Ben could be the kind of fantasy player who has sub 5 points going into a 4th quarter and then end up with 15+ when he racks up a lot of garbage time stats, given how bad that team is.

I have ben as my second qb in a 2 qb league...should i be panicking and trying to work a trade out? (see team 1 in my signature)

I picked Rivers as QB2 but started him this week. So glad I did. Steelers look like dogmeat and I'll be dropping Ben after this game if this continues...

Is he ever going to turn it around? He's my only QB in a 14-team league and there's scraps on the waiver wire.

I gotta think Heath Miller and Le'veon Bell will help *SOME* when they return. I'm just amazed at how ineffective Ben is - with no run game, I figured he'd at least be throwing a ton and getting points.

As a Steelers fan, I wouldn't bother rostering Roethlisberger right now. He's missing some throws, but more than that, it's the (lack of a) offensive line that is killing him. He has no time on 8/10 throwing snaps to actually work through his reads. We are also missing Mike Wallace big-time. Wallace didn't get an awful lot of receptions every game, but the threat of the long-ball kept defenses honest. Now every defensive player can be within 10-15 yards of the line of scrimmage without penalty. Brown and Sanders are very similar receivers, both better at slants/screens or in the slot. Since we have no deep threat now, it is translating into more difficult coverage as Brown goes from the clear #2 WR to the clear #1 (at least on this team) and he's getting opposing defenses' #1 CB much more.

It's not so much ben's fault. The offensive line is terrible, there is no running game, and receivers can't seperate. This leads to a one dimensional offense, not enough time for ben to throw the ball (due to a combination of no seperation on the WRs end and the o-line crumbling), pressure in big ben's face on just about every play and inaccurate throws.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you have to ride this out. I'm in the same boat though since I'm in a 2 QB league, the waiver wire has 4 QB's left...Henne, Ponder, Locker, and Geno Smith yipee...

I think things should definitely improve when Miller and Le'Veon Bell get back - but Tomlin will definitely need to solve their o-line issues as that is the main reason for their struggles right now

If you ask me, Big Ben is the best player on that offense right now and trying to carry that offense on his shoulders. Unfortunately, it's a team game and he can't throw the ball to himself...

Schaub and Henne have better matchups. They held Matt Ryan to 18 points last week.
