What would you do this offseason if you were the owner of your team?

49 posts in this topic

Well as a Vikings fan currently I see myself looking up mock drafts sometimes in my free time. Isn't that sad? Week 8 of the NFL season I'm already looking towards next May and this offseason. So to pass some time I'll tell you what I would do if I owned the Minnesota Vikings.

First I would clean house by firing our awful OC Bill Musgrave. Maybe fire Leslie Frazier considering he never holds anyone accountable for mistakes, but I'd be fine with him staying. Might have to fire our DC Alan Williams considering he uses the same double A-gap blitz almost always when we actually blitz.

Honestly the thought of trading Adrian Peterson away from the team would kill me, but because of the crazy respect that I have for him I'd be okay with trading him. Here's why, I want to see him succeed. I don't see us being that elite team soon enough to get him a ring while he is still beasting. I'd be okay with trading him for some picks and maybe another rb for the future.

Then in the draft considering I can't see us winning more than 5 games this year as sad as that is. I see us ending up with a top 10 pick, hopefully top 5. I really like Marcus Mariota or Brett Hundley so I'd probably draft one of them. Then in the next rounds draft either defensive lineman or defensive secondary.

Then next for my new OC I'd hire someone a lot more creative than our current coordinator Musgrave. Someone like Greg Roman of the 49ers. I really like what he's done with the offense and I think with Mariota or Hundley it could really work. I would next hire someone like Rob Ryan of the Saints as my new DC. I'm not saying I'm going to hire these people I'm saying someone like them in their coaching style.

So basically I would build more the future than a win now mentality because I don't see us being an elite team anytime in the near future.

Well this is just an idea for a topic to just be creative about what you would do with your favorite nfl team this offseason. Now yours doesn't have to be as long as mine but it's just an idea for something to help pass your time. So join in and tell me what you would do if you owned your favorite NFL franchise.

I would create a hostile work environment and leer at the cheerleaders. Hard to imagine I'd last a week to be honest.

He did pretty well this last draft, not too good with qbs though. Unless freeman shapes up and throws a little under 15 overthrows in each game you can count him as another failure of an acquisition.

Packers owner here. Fire the conditioning coach. Hire a hamstring specialist.

Bears. Consider if franchising Cutler is an option, and extend the core -- defense included -- one more year. That latter part seems unrealistic, however. Peppers is a goner and Tillman would have to accept a team-friendly, short-term contract. Draft value at positions of need and give it all one last go before considering a total rebuild of the defense.

Then again, if this team implodes, now may be the absolute best time to begin the rebuilding process on D.

In either case, the offense looks promising and should ease whatever transitions may come. However, they need a quarterback to make it all go, so a lot is riding on Cutler's return in 2013.

IDK, obviously Mark Ingram should have been cut or traded for a ham sandwich by the end of the season so the Saints won't need to deal with that in the offseason.

As a Cowboys fan, this would be my draft:

1st OT (Matthews Ideally, but I'll take anyone)

2nd OG/OT

3rd OG/OT

4th OG/OT/DT

5th Safety

6th Durable RB

7th OG/OT/DT

I partially jest, but I'd get that line sured up before anything else.

As a Cowboys fan...

I would offer Buffalo a 1st round pick for Spiller, cut miles austin, restructure or trade Murray, fire the training staff and figure out a way to have the entire team not hurt 2 weeks into every season. Profit.

Would definitely look for O/D lineman and a safety in the draft.

A boy can dream can't he?

Redskins:

Fire Jim Haslett (why wait til the end of the season?), and spend all of what picks we didn't trade away for RG3 on strengthening our secondary. Maybe go after a good WR to complement Garcon.

Chargers:

Strengthen the D-Line and cornerback positions. Build a new stadium to replace Qualcomm.

Second this!

Also, fire McCarthy, hire a coach that doesn't throw games away for us in the second half. I want a coach who puts his foot on the gas pedal and doesn't take it off. (Hey Chip, interested in a Superbowl ring?)

Dom Capers needs to go as well. There was a time he was good, and I appreciate that, but our defense has been mostly s--- for the last couple of seasons. The play in the secondary has been awful for a while, we can't seem to tackle for a loss (unless it's a sack), everyone who touches the ball seems to be able to get 3-5 yards minimum out of each touch, and I'm sick and tired of seeing nearly every 3rd and long attempt successful.

I would also add an overhang in our stadium similar to the cheaters over in Seattle. We would be unstoppable at home. Take first in the division? Guaranteed Superbowl appearance.

TBH, I like Murray better than Spiller. I'd rather get a durable RB that can be a safe bet when Murray goes down (a runner in the style of Lacy).

But yeah, I'd definitely hire a S&C coach (I'd try and steal "The Black Death" away from A&M).

But all that gives me

hopefully a serviceable O-line in year 1.

A QB just short of elite.

An elite receiver + a good WR2 + Beasly/Austin for slot work.

An elite TE in Witten

A solid RB in Murray, + a solid backup

D-line depth

A great LB core

A good enough secondary to keep me in games

An elite returner

A great kicker.

That's a good team, at least on paper.

Edit: And I'd ban Jerry Jones for life. Because f*** that guy.

Why draft an OT? Free is the highest ranked tackle in all of football per PFF.

Dline, DL, RB, OG, WR, WR.

Yeah I think the missing piece for the Cowboys now is depth on the D-line although I am quite optimistic about the young guys that have stepped in this season. The O-line is on a completely different level this year than the past couple years although drafting a top quality guard in the 2nd or 3rd round could do wonders. If I owned the Cowboys I would draft best DL, best OG, best DL, best DL and maybe find a running back somewhere in there.

As a Ravens fan, I wish I could be the owner before that deal with Flacco was signed. I could care less if you just won me a Super Bowl and was (wrongly) named Super Bowl MVP. You're not about to get paid like you're Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees when you haven't played at their level. I'm not saying I wouldn't pay you, but I'd have rather let him walk and rode Tyrod Taylor before I gave you a ridiculous amount of money you don't deserve.

Second, no player would ever earn a ridiculous amount of money on my team. Now as a Ravens fans my natural born enemy is the Steelers, but I respect that they refuse to over pay players and would rather let you go (ie. Mike Wallace). With a GM like Ozzie Newsome, we can find talent else where. That's why I wasn't mad we let Ed Reed go. As great as he is, he was in his twilight years and a history of injuries asking for yet more money. We use to be more like this previously, I'm kind of surprised we caved in to Flacco.

Third, I would have made sure our g'damn offensive line was good to go. Yes we lost a great center in Birk but to fall THIS far with the craptastic guy we have now? C'mon Baltimore.

Fourth, definitely would have resigned Boldin and if we trade him, it wouldn't be for an insulting 6th round pick. I mean what the hell guys? Is that how you felt about a guy who saved a lot of drives during the Super Bowl run? Worth 'only' a 6th round pick?

As a Giants fan, I can concur with this for Big Blue as well. WHAT!?!? A Giants and Cowboys fan agree?? Its amazing how the guys in the trenches affect all aspects of the game on both sides. If I were Jerry Reese, I would fortify the offensive line in front of Eli to allow him to utilize his weapons and to get some resemblance of a running game. You have an elite QB with great receivers, why not afford him the opportunity to use them. I'm not confident that our RB on the future is on the roster, so I would be actively looking for options here but not at the expense of a high draft pick. Even with Kiwi, Pierre-Paul and Tuck, the Giants get no pass rush so that would be another area of focus. Traditionally, It's time for Big Blue to get back to what they do best which is rush the passer, develop a run game and use that play action. Simple enough :)

Cowboys needs to address the DL and Safety. Not much pressure on opposing QB. Easy to be attacked by TE, ranked bottom?

Mike Evans and Brady would make sweet sweet love.

Giants fan here this list could be very long that side I'll start with O-line and TE. It seems like every team has an athletic TE in the league we are always rolling out some tub of lard Brandon Myers is terrible Pascoe Kevin Boss was okay I guess the list goes on we need a ton of help on both sides of the ball but i def want a good TE for a change. I do think we will have a quick turn around not your standard rebuild quick rebuild.

Yeah as much as I would love to see them back, they are both almost certainly gone after this season...kinda a bad career move to forgo the draft when they are both 1st rounders.

They would probably have to be fat cheerleaders to make it work.
