Andrew Quarless 2013 Season Outlook

19 posts in this topic

No one talking about this guy yet? 25 years old, 6'4", 250 lbs, draft profile said he has good ball skills. He's been with the Packers since 2010, and so he knows the playbook. Filled in for Finley as a rookie in 2010, but wasn't great. Still, he's going to be the starting TE on a top offense that's missing its slot receiver. I think there's some upside here.

Here's an excerpt from his draft profile:

"Good movement skills – can stretch the deep middle. Can easily pluck the ball on the move and torque his body to adjust to the off-target throw. Can track the deep ball over his shoulder. Solid in-line blocker – consistently locks out his arms, drives his legs on contact and moves defenders off the line. Flashes power on the second level."

Interesting, everything I've read says he has hands of stone but is one hell of a blocker.

This. Quarless isn't going to be the pass catching TE in this offense. Brandon Bostick is your guy if you're wanting to roll the dice here, but I'd pass.

And please change the subtitle of this thread. The Packers don't have the best offense in the league.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted it. Can't edit it now, it seems. Sorry.

For dynasty leaguers, I'd stay away from the GB tight ends. Bostick has the best chance, but mock drafts I'm reading are slating Green Bay to draft their replacement for Finley even before Finley went down with injury. There are a couple of potential stud TE (Ebron & Seferian-Jenkins) slated to go early.

Quarless, aka "Gods Gift" as his tattooes claim, is absolute garbage. Im a packer fan and cringe whenever I see him on the field because he is terrible and his hands are terrible. he makes jermichaels hands look like jerry rices'. .. and I can almost promise you that those in dynasty leagues looking at Bostick not to be afraid of the packers drafting a potential stud TE in the draft... Ted Thompson will never NOT take a big guy in the first round of the draft and therefore probably miss out on the elite TEs in the draft, he drafts OL and DL like they are going out of style.. I think Bostick will emerge sooner rather than later.

Gronk replacement anyone...?

I was thinking the same thing. Right now I'm trying to grab Pitta but the Lions defense has screwed my fantasy players all season long so I'm not crazy about it. If Rodgers were to make miraculous recovery I think the decision becomes a lot harder. But....he also did have his biggest game of the year with Flynn last week. QBs uncomfortable in an offense often fall in love with TEs as a safer receiving option.

Injury to Bostick, Rodgers might be back wk 16, GB playoff hopes still alive.

Quarless sneaky wk 16 play vs PIT? Or too risky to trust in FF Championship game?

I honestly might start him. He looked good last week, and two weeks in a row he has had the exact same stats.

Week 14: 6 catches 66 yards one TD long of 21

Week 15: 6 catches 66 yards one td long of 22

666! this dude is the devil.

I might play him, its either him, Wright or Pitta-ful.

I'm in the exact same situation. Talent wise Wright should be the start, but he is too inconsistent. Quarless has been hot recently (because he is secretly the devil)

I remember going into this season thinking my TE situation was all set. Gronk and Jermichael Finley.

Now i am going to play Quarless in the championship game and hope Rodgers return helps him out.

If Rodgers comes back, I would not start Quarless. Rodgers' return will only boost his WRs IMO.

If you are in this Quarless thread, then you are most likely thin at TE. I most certainly am. I am bailing on Fleener this week. I can no longer trust this guy, even for a 4/40 type line. I am in my final even though Fleener gave me a goose egg last week in my semi final.

Of the TE's that are likely available at this point in the season...I would have my eye on Marcedes Lewis. Very quietly been productive his past 3 games, with TD's in each. He is the primary red zone target for Henne.

On top of that, Jags are putting Shorts on IR. This should boost Lewis' targets tremendously.

I am adding him on my wire tonight and will start with confidence when I get him.

FWIW...

Marcedes Lewis caught four passes for 54 yards and one touchdown in Week 15 against the Bills.

Lewis drew seven targets and led the Jaguars in receiving with Cecil Shorts (groin) inactive. He's now found the end zone in three straight games. Once Shorts is back healthy -- if that happens -- Lewis will go back to contributing mainly as a blocker. Lewis remains nothing more than a low-end TE2. Dec 15 - 6:33 PM

Lewis is a name that I'm also looking at. The Titans have a pair of good CB's so Lewis should see plenty of targets. Another name that I'm looking at is Ryan Griffin. He replaced Garrett Graham last week and had solid numbers. Graham might not play again this week. Houston loves to use their TE in the passing game.

Quarless is a high risk, high reward play. As long as they don't need him to pass block he should be productive. So it also depends on how the OL will stack up against the Steelers pass rush.
