Dez Bryant 2014 Season Outlook

If the Cowboys truly commit to that identity, I'm down to consider him as a top 5 wr again...but that's a big if. The wealthy reptile in charge could f up a wet dream.

top 3 ? No

Top 10? Yes

To me, Calvin, Gordon and DT have separated themselves from the rest.

Then I'd go with guys like Green, Marshall, Jeffrey, Jordy, Brown, Julio

#7 WR in 2013. Now with Linehan as OC...legit threat to be top-3 WR? Please discuss.

Absolutely. The Linehan signing is a huge boon for Dez & Romo. Top 3 WR that you can get closer to WR 10. It's foolish to expect last year's inconsistent season when the circumstances have changed in his favor. Stats on par with 2012.

Linehan as in the one from Detroit? The Lions didn't keep him!?

I'm tired of waiting for Dez, but its hard to project less than top 5 WR value in 2014. Just too many games with 3-4 targets in the last 2 years, it seemed like. Josh Gordon will probably scare anyone at his probable cost this year unless of course, you wre Brian Hoyer's college roommate. To me it truly is Calvin, then everyone else- Dez,DT,Gordon,Julio, etc

Its Calvin, then everyone else- Dez,DT,Gordon, Marshall, Julio..that being said Id probably have Dez as my #2 WR based on the fact he has a competent regular season QB haha, (I don't see Josh Gordon doing that again with that stable of QBs and no run game). Also, will not have to share targets like Marshall and Jeffrey. Logic tells me top 3, but its a freakin crapshoot, we all know this

Linehan will know how to get Dez the ball. Calvin averaged 12 targets per game under Linehan and I can't see how he doesn't feature Dez in the passing game.

Calvin

DT - No Decker so he gets a boost

Dez

The Rest

You really think that Kyle Shanahan isn't going to target Gordon more than he did Garcon (NFL leader in catches) last year?

It's really splitting hairs over who is "the best" fantasy WR heading towards the 2014 season as there are some really compelling reasons for even better performances from the top guys:

Calvin - in prime of career, better health, hopeful improvements from Stafford under new coaching staff

DT - potential for Decker to leave via FA, in prime of career, Manning still at peak form

Dez - Only 25 & best seasons should still be ahead, Linehan may target him a ton especially in RZ

JGordon - coming off unbelievable sophomore season, KShanahan will find ways to get him even more targets and receptions

BMarsh - year 2 in Trestman's extremely passer friendly offense. Top 5 WR in b2b seasons

AJ - top 5 WR in b2b seasons, only 25 so best years could still be yet to come, new OC "The Wolverine" Hue Jackson knows how to run an offense

and then there are guys like ABrown, AJohnson, Julio, JNelson, Cobb, DJax, AJeffrey, KAllen, Crabtree, Welker (if Decker leaves), TY Hilton - who all have the potential to be top 5 guys as their QB and team/offense situations should be really good.

In my opinion, Dez has just as good a chance as any of the consensus top 4-6 guys to finish as (or right around) the #1 fantasy WR for 2014.

So do I. I just think its shortsighted to exclude Gordon from top-3 consideration when he was the #1 WR last year.

Linehan will help Dez even more in 2014. He'll have a little bit better numbers, but more importantly, I think the new playcaller will allow those fantasy points to be spread out better throughout the season with better consistency.

Only guys I'll take over Dez

Calvin

DT

BMarsh

AJ, and a healthy Julio are right there, but I'll probably end up giving Dez the nod, I understand putting AJ abover Dez for sure, but I just think Linehan gives him an uptick, and makes sure he gets involved on a weekly basis. If Julio looks himself in the preseason, however, he's probably above dez for me. Love Gordon, top5 talent, but the solid QB situation isn't there yet which bugs me. There are things I like about Hoyer, but obviously he's still a huge question mark, we'll see which QB they draft, but you can only hope a rookie starting QB can provide for Gordon out the gate.

You know it's the offseason when you're reading this on rotoworld:

"Dez is a legit threat to set career-highs across the board in 2014."

Of the many things I don't at all understand about the cowboys, lets add this to the list.

your D is really really really really really really bad.........really bad.

you have success when you establish a run game with Murray and keep your kindergarten level D off the field.

So you hire an incredibly pass happy coach?

I do like dez a lot but he's currently my number 7 in PPR behind

1. Calvin

2. D. Thomas

3. Green

4. Marshall

5. Antonio Brown

6. Gordon

7. Dez

Although Bryant can finish number one and guys like Marshall or brown are less likely, his consistency last year frustrated me. But in my PPR leagues I'm also ranking these 7 WRs in my top 12 overall so I'm very high on all these individuals.

With the hiring of Linehan, I think Dez will be the #5 WR next season. Here's how I see the top 5 playing out:

1. Calvin Johnson

2. Demaryius Thomas

3. Brandon Marshall

4. Antonio Brown

5. Dez Bryant

As for 6-10, in no particular order: Gordon, Julio, Jeffery, Jordy, & Green.

As a Cowboys fan I couldn't agree more.

At least Murray can catch passes, too.

The situation in Dallas may be favorable for Dez, but I think there quite a few "safer" bets in landing a Top WR in the draft.

If I draft Dez, I would want to draft another #1WR fairly soon after.

There is no doubting Dez' talent or that Romo is a roto-friendly QB or that the Dallas defense will be putrid.

The challenge I have with Dez is that he has developing, and potentially chronic back issues.

Couple that with his physical style of play and you have a recipe for time on the shelf.

He took pain-killing injections last year and is still not past these issues.

Then, you have Romo's potential for back problems, as well.

Dez's A game is on par with anyone's, but there are already indicators to suggest you may not see it week-in and week-out for 16 weeks...

Worth the risk in rd 2 taking a guy that has the talent and opportunity (pass crazy Linehan now running the offense) to finish as the #1 fantasy WR.

I hear you.

For me, I like to push my risk back in the draft a bit further.

In Round 2, I would grab one of the other WRs that have a similar potential and spend my "risk" picks later in the draft on upside prospects.

Despite the significant upside, RD2 is too early a pick for a physical player with obvious back issues.

Any thought to how true this will really be?

This is clearly the plan with Linehan running the offense. That's why the realistic upside of Dez (1,600+ yds, 15+ TD) outweigh the downside risk (a floor of his #'s the previous 2 seasons and/or injury concerns) in my opinion. Also, we're not talking about having to reach for him in rd 1. Calvin, DT, BMarsh, JGordon, AJ are all going to go before him - maybe even guys like Julio, ABrown, Alshon, Jordy too. When you consider the RB, QB, TE (Graham only) that will go before him, Dez's ADP will likely end up in the 20-25 range. Elite level talent + more opportunity - it's a no-brainer yet many will over think things.

Oh yeah I almost forgot about those back issues....................what is with the back injuries in Dallas.
