Cincinnati Reds 2014 Team Outlook

7 posts in this topic

I think Cincinnati is going to go on a run from here on out. Mesoraco is an excellent 5-hole hitter. They miss the Choo of last season, but the lineup of Hamilton, Phillips, Votto, Bruce, Mesoraco, now all healthy can give the run support that the rotation can use, because the rotation has been excellent. Cueto pitching like an ace, Latos now healthy, Simon pitching out of his mind, Leake has been serviceable, and while Bailey has stunk up the joint, he's consistently a good 2nd half pitcher. Great 8th and 9th bullpen guys in Broxton and Chapman. And the defense is some of the best in the NL this year. I think they can make a run in the NL Central coming into the 2nd half. Not convinced the Brewers can go wire to wire or the Cards are as good as last season. On paper this should be the team to beat in that division, they've got guys on all sides of the ball. But what do you guys think?

I agree with your assessment of the Reds. I think they will win at a 60% clip going forward. Hamilton continuing to get on base is the key.

I do not think the Brewers are going to collapse though although they may need to get another SP.

Quietly, due to the Cubs improvement, every team on the division is a pretty good team. It should be a very interesting race.

If the Cards get David Price things change entirely though. They'd become the favorite again.

They need a first baseman that wants to hit.

This...They need to move Votto from the third spot if they want to beat the good teams

What about Votto in the two-hole then? Guy's OBP is just too good to ignore. I'm thinking a lineup like this.

Hamilton

Votto

Frazier

Bruce

Mesoraco

Phillips

Ludwick

Cozart

P

EDIT: looks like 96mnc and I think alike.

Guys RBI less skills are to glaring to ignore might as well bat him lead off guy swings at nothing close even with two strikes and a runner on third. Great for the team horrible for the hole in my first base slot. I'd probably even argue its not great for the team. If they aren't scoring runs.
