I think he's one of the better pick ups right now. He could take the league by storm. He showed that he could pitch in AAA, even though he's been slowing down a bit over his last couple starts.

Color me intrigued by this guy - Wada has had sustained success for some time now in the minors with his wide assortment of offerings - I will be watching his first start closely. Reminiscent of Despaigne

Good comp, except Wada actually has good control, which can make his stuff work.

Anyone giving him a shot today? Pitching 2nd half of the double header against an awful David Holmberg. Only downside is pitching in Great American.

I was between him or Martinez and I think I like Wadas upside. He has been waiting for this moment for some time now.

precisely because he's pitching the 2nd half against a bad pitcher is why im rolling with him. i dont know if maybe they'll sit some of their guys like bruce or billy so if they do that can only help. also they dont know him well so advantage wada. but yeah pitching in Great-Am is a bit of a risk.

Was the Cubs rotation that good that they kept a 33 year old performing that well in the minors until now? Doesn't it seem obvious they are trying to tank it this year? I mean the Astros have been accused of tanking but they didn't even have the talent to bring up.

Who's spot was he supposed to take? Not Samardzjia, Hammel, Wood, or Arrieta. Plus Jackson is making too much money to lose his spot and he's had his moments this year too. Its just been a numbers game against Wada. He was just supposed to be depth this year.

They may be "tanking" to a degree but it has nothing to do with keeping him down. That said I snagged him up and am hopeful he can be useful ROS

Wasn't he with the O's until fairly recently?

Yea, this is his first year with the Cubs, and they didn't have any spots in their rotation until now. Hopefully he can continue his success in AAA.

Yea I agree now. When they traded Samard I saw something about Straily having a better shot at pitching in the majors than he had in Oakland due to the Cubs starting rotation being so thin. Guess I should've done a little homework

does he have tanaka type potential?

I hope this is a joke. He is no where near that type of player and has been aroun for a few years now. He didn't cut it with the orioles due to injuries and under performance but he was supposed to be better than Chen

Yep, It's amazing that ESPN hasn't been following him around AAA for this entire season taking pictures of Wada and his dog.

But Wada isn't a true prospect, he's 33, and I think part of the problem of your statement is that you're literally comparing players JUST on their ethnicity, and you're talking about a player who's 33 and in AAA.

Do you seriously think a 33-year-old pitcher in AAA would have Tanaka type potential?

Wada, Hendricks, Straily, and Beeler are all intriguing to various degrees so this week's games could be intriguing for deep leaguers trying to find another starter.

As a Cubs fan, I don't see any of thme as having much upside in standard 5x5 leagues. Hendricks is intriguing in a future outlook as he seeems like a very intelligent very well controlled pitcher for a low K rate pitcher, and Wada has dominated AAA but has previously been unsuccessful. Beeler I just don't think is that great of a pitcher and I can't imagine Straily being very relevant THIS year, once again I think a pitcher that may be intriguing in the future but I dont' see any of these pitchers being very relevant in 2014
