They did it! Called him up and will be playing 2B. Scoop him up before anyone else does

Thoughts on playing time ? Will he be playing every day or will this be another Mookie Betts quandary ?

Every day. There's nobody blocking his path and Theo would've have called him up to play him like the Red Sox are screwing with Betts.

Should get full playing time. I'm no Cubs fan, but I imagine Baez will slot in at 2B with Alcantara moving to CF.

This. The Cubs would never do that to one of their top prospects.

Baez will likely slot lower in the lineup I believe to get his feet wet. It was said that Alcantara will not lead off and will hit 2nd where he had more success. Not sure how much this changes now that Baez is here.

He could put on a nice power display in Coors.

Javier Baez will be promoted to the Cubs on Tuesday.

Baez got off to a slow start this season at Triple-A Iowa, but he hit .322 with a 1.046 OPS, 12 home runs, and 38 RBI over his last 40 games and obviously isn't being promoted to sit on the Cubs' bench. The talented 21-year-old can play both shortstop and second base, and is worth adding in all mixed fantasy leagues for the stretch run.

I feel like this is bad news for Alcantara for this year's playing time.

Only so many AB for Castro, Alcantara, Valbuena, and Baez.

He's in center while Baez is at 2B.

Alcantara will strictly be playing CF the rest of the year.

I just traded for him 6 hours ago in a keeper league. Impeccable timing.

Thanks.

If youre in an ESPN keeper league, Im guessing thats bad for Alcantara though, because it would seem he'll get more AB in OF and if he doesnt get 5 more games in at 2B, then he's not going to have 2b eligibility next year. Not sure how yahoo/cbs do it for next year... I think it might be only 10 games.

In Yahoo it's 5 starts or 10 games played at.

In think Yahoo gives eligibility for positions if the guys passes through it to another position. Like if the team has the 3rd base dugout and the player goes to play right field, he could conceivably get eligibility at 3rd, ss, and 2nd base. He does it 10 times and you have a dream player.

Honestly I think 5 is the magic number in Yahoo.
