Nikola Jokic 2016-17 Season Outlook

Recommended Posts

One of the best fantasy rookies in recent history to only be outshined by KAT's historic year and Porzingis great rookie year. If he plays 30+ minutes he has a shot at ending the season as a top 15 fantasy asset. Assuming a reasonable ADP (around 40) one of the biggest sleepers this year.

Agreed on Jokic. Targeting him in every league.

It would be better if Faried or Nurkic got traded though. Denver has a pretty crowded front court

He was ranked 66th playing 21.7 minutes a game. I'm not worried about him even if Faried or Nurkic stays. He's better than both of them and if they stay he's going to be artificially lower on draft boards which makes me happy.

On one of the latest podcasts Gallagher has him in the third round. Then I come to this thread and see you guys have a realistic outlook as some second round or better.

When I heard that I thought you were all way over valuing him, then I looked at his splits..

Last 30 games basically 0.4-10-9-3-1-0.7 , .480/.850-1.4to

.... in 24 minutes.

I'm wondering if Y! and ESPN will be sleeping on him in their rankings and projections. I'm not sure I can pull the trigger in the third round (as the 2ND pick in the third round, I'll have either Giannis or Butler to choose from from non-keepers) so I'll be looking at him at the end of the fourth.

I took a flier on him last year at the final round but dropped him and wasn't able to get him back. Won't make that mistake again.

I like his upside but Malone's rotation concerns me. Faried is still here, Nurkic is healthy and he loves Arthur. Gallo could spend more time at 4 as well with the return of Wilson Chandler. His minutes were really inconsistent last season.

He was a rookie. Playing time got more consistent as the season went on. I'm not at all concerned with minutes this year. The organization doesn't care about Faried or Arthur anymore, believe me. They're incredibly high on Jokic though.

ĹLooking for a Faried trade. I think he is fit to be a pf. I wonder if he is quick enough. The only problem is that Nurkic is kind of a black hole in terms of usage and demanding the ball. Yet these two guys make up the scariest european tandem.

Jokic doesn't have the quicks imo, they're both much better suited as centers. Jokic is fantastic, but Nurkic is good too. Faried is too old to make sense and I think they'll ship him out (but I thought that last year), but Denver's got a pretty good problem on their hands. I think they'd be wise to get or develop another youngish PF in there that can play and just run a 3-man rotation. Jokic and Nurkic can play together, they're just both better in the middle because they can't get out to the perimeter on D like a PF needs to.

Nurkic has dropped 30 lbs during this offseason and is apparently getting into full form for this upcoming season, so Jokic might have some tough competition at the C spot.

I really don't think they can both co-exist on the court. Jokic has to play the 5, his jumpshot may hint he could play the 4, but he needs to operate in the post to exploit his full potential. Also he might struggle in defense against quicker and more athletic PFs.

Malone loves Jokic so there's that, let's cross our fingers that he gives him 30 minutes every night

Yeah I saw a few games where Jokic lost the man he was supposed to switch to on the pick and roll. I attributed that to being a rookie. Hopefully he has stepped up his conditioning cause he looked gassed in the beginning of the season. He is very young so hopefully our judgements about him being too slow for the 4 spot is premature.

When is picking him too early? T30? T40? I'm building my draft board and wondering if I'm too high on him or what. To me he's ahead of guys like Kanter, but not sure I'm ready to pick him over K-Love? Aldridge? That's a maybe for me.

To me, it's Aldridge>>>>>> Love> Jokic>>> Kanter.  I love Jokic and owned him last year but a healthy Nurkic around still gives me pause on using that high of a pick on him.  I want a sure thing in the first 3-4 rounds.

i love jokic. a lot. but taking him earlier than like the 5th or even 6th round sounds like a disaster. that team is way too deep, and his minutes get jerked around way too much. i can already see people being pissed over his production if they take him in the 3rd.

There is just no way I am touching this guy in the early rounds if he somehow lasts until the 5th I might consider it there. I need a guy that is a lock for PT in the 3rd round and if you owned Jokic or Nurkic last season the pain was real. Both of these guys were benched just way, way to much..

Agree with above. There is too much talent spread more or less equally in Denver. Faried is also still playing there btw. I wouldn't pick him until the later mid rounds. Especially now that Nurkic should be healthy.

I said 5th round above and the more I think about it that is even way 2 early. I would love to get him in the 8th round or later and if I can't o well at this point. The hype is getting absurd for a 25 min or less guy this year..

If you really want him you will probably need to grab round 4. Any earlier it's too risky, but someone will roll the dice in round 4.

I will consider it. His downside seems so minimal. On 21 minutes he returned 6th round value. If my 4th pick returns 6th round value it's really not that big a deal.

I agree exactly with that comment.. No way u find Jokic after 5th Round in competitive leagues. In addition , I think he is more talented than the other DEN bigs, so I believe he will earn more playing time this season and probably finish with much higher value than a typical 5th Rounder.. Very intriguing pick for sure..

Michael Malone said that he believes the Nuggets can build around Nikola Jokic.

Jokic exploded onto the scene during the second-half of the 2014-15 season, putting up top-50 value in 9-cat leagues despite earning just 24.8 minutes a night with averages of 10.8 points, 9.0 boards, 3.3 assists, 1.0 steal and 0.8 blocks per game on 48.9 percent shooting. Jokic proved that he's capable of offering solid value in limited minutes, so while he will have a bit more competition for playing time in a healthy Jusuf Nurkic next year, he still makes sense as an early mid-round target.

wow TOP 15!? 2nd or 3rd round!? unless your league is 14+ yall gotta calm down here I would be happy to be in a league where you guys grab Jokic that early because that's more pizza for me. Let's be real here, this is his second year in the league...and he was able to produce those good numbers with the absence of a solid front court, but you gotta think about this...Faried knows the situation he is in being out of rotation inconsistently and Nurkic was basically 50% when he was able to play. Both of those players are now 100% and Faried is going to try to play like his career is on the line so although those roto quotes, coaching quotes sound interesting for us, you just cannot be that high on a sophomore player with a crowded 100% front court. Picking him that early reminds me of how high guys were on Gobert and although ppl hate to admit it, they lost more than they won picking a player that high...I am not diminishing his upside, I am just not convinced a sophomore player with upside can get me consistent 2nd or 3rd round production over proven players. I will definitely be targeting Jokic, but just not as high as some of you guys think he's gonna be. But that's just me.

Top 15? You're fooling yourself if you think you can still get him by then--this is the same guy that single-handedly destroyed DeMarcus, DeAndre, and Draymond on the big stage. Biggest jump of the offseason. Top 10 for sure.

lol I dunno if you're being sarcastic or not it's hard to tell...but if you believe he's top 10 I wish you good fortune on all seasons to come.
