Sixto Sanchez (RHP-MIA)

Recommended Posts

6IP, 3H, 1ER, 0BB, 10K yesterday.

18.2IP,  13H, 2ER, 2BB, 24K over his last three starts. Which is, I’ll call it, good.

Sixto extends his streak of good pitching with a 2-hit shutout today. He went 7 and struck out 5.

Since his ERA climbed to 4.71 on May 5, he's given up two earned runs over 25 2/3 innings in his last four starts to get that number down to 2.51, which ranks second in the Florida State League. It was his second scoreless start of the year after blanking Daytona for 6 2/3 innings on May 11.

Do we have an ETA?

2019 is the earliest IMO.

Phils are trying to spin it positively, and all things considered it is somewhat good news, but an elbow barking already for a hard thrower like Sanchez is not a good long-term sign.  Some didn't think he would hold up to a starter's role, so we'll see how this all unfolds.

Appears we might have to update the team name here??

It is a move that would certainly improve his outlook, mainly just based on park factors...most importantly would be the fact he passed the physical though-

Depends on the league.  In a league with wins, he just lost a ton lol.

With the Phillies having eyes on contending, and Miami in an obvious rebuild, with little in the pipeline in terms of front-line starting pitching....todays trade would seemingly accelerate his clock to the majors.

Questions about the elbow still persist, and I fear TJ could be in the not-so-distant future which clouds future speculation, however its encouraging that he passed the physical today.

If he proves healthy, then its quite the haul for the "Fish" today!

For what it's worth.

The Plus is what we all were worried about. Sixto’s name was part of the trade from the get-go it seems. We already know that the Phillies were open to dealing him to Seattle in a deal that would have included Diaz. But why would they be willing to move their top pitching prospect?

Maybe because he wasn’t going to remain that for long. I believe they were unhappy with the condition in which he arrived last spring. Perhaps that had something to do with the elbow problem that sidelined him. He appeared to get thick around the middle during his rehab. His secondary pitches weren’t progressing along a developmental path that they had expected. With a poorer pitch repertoire they were seriously considering moving him to the bullpen. Seriously. The collarbone that kept him out of the AFL was probably fiction to maintain the myth of his TOR status. I believe that they may have planned on trade high as early as last summer. A #1 prospect who moves to the bullpen loses value quickly.

I think they may have sold high.
