What's up guys? My minor league prospect draft is coming up in a few days and I was wondering if members here that  have a 2+ round prospect draft can post their results. I think it would be helpful for others to see who went where. Thoughts?

Is it ok to keep the thread in the MiLB section since it's only about prospects?

Prospects is entirely what this forum is about 100%.

@The Big Bat Theory I understand that which is why I was hoping it would stay in the MiLB section even though it could be considered a bench coach thread.

Sorry I didn't see @JeterPimpedUrGF had already started a thread about this. I will post our results as the draft goes on. Mine is 2 rounds (32 picks) but it's a slow draft and we only do 4 picks per day.

we did ours a couple weeks ago.

a few things to know about this league to interpret the results:

it's not pure dynasty. time is a huge factor. you get to hold the prospects free for 3 years, then after that you have to put them on your 40-man and start paying them

this hugely devalues high schoolers and 16-year-old dominicans in favor of college draftees and older cubans, which is why you see guys like groome, maitan, rutherford dropping farther than they do in most other similar drafts

also sometimes guys who haven't made the majors at the end of that three-year span get non-tendered and go back into the draft, which is where a lot of the names at the top came from (brinson, devers, gallo, etc) - again, shows the risks of drafting good players who are too far off, this is what happens. you waste 3 years of a minors slot and get nothing

also all other unowned players in this particular league are in the pool, it's not purely newly signed players

league depth: 16 teams, 25 minor league slots = 400 minor leaguers

anyway here's the list

1.1 (1) Nick Senzel, 3B (CIN)
1.2 (2) Lewis Brinson, OF (MIL)

Not trying to. I'm legit curious how someone like Albies was available and some others. Even if they can't make minors pickups in-season some of these guys should have been on rosters at the start of last season.

Some leagues only allow for controlled minor leaguers to be picked up during in the draft. I'm in multiple leagues that have some sort of benefit of drafting rather than picking them up. Maybe there aren't allowed of keepers on each team.

Some leagues only allow for controlled minor leaguers to be picked up during in the draft. I'm in multiple leagues that have some sort of benefit of drafting rather than picking them up. Maybe there aren't allowed of keepers on each team.

That's the case in my league. If the player has no MLB experience he can't be picked up and stashed. People complained that it watered down the draft.

how were some of those guys available in your league?

Our league has a 10 max minor league system with a 2 round draft every year. Like @DropkickAlex said, in our league you can pick up a minor leaguer during the season but if that player does not get a major league AB or throw a major league pitch then they are dropped from your team at the end of the season. We started that rule about 3-4 years ago because it did water down the draft. As for Albies, in 2016 he was ranked #63 on baseball america's top 100 list. With only 32 picks in the draft some players get overlooked. Lets face it, Albies isn't as exciting as some of the other prospects out there. I really like what he is doing against much older competition but his fantasy value will come from his ability to get on base and his legs with a handful of homers mixed in. Some guys choose to go for higher upside guys who can possibly hit 20 homers and steal 15 bases.

@skinzfan36

Our 2016   Draft went like this in case you care

Moncada, Swanson, Reed, Rodgers, Brinson, Benintendi, Reyes, Zimmerman, Snell, Phillips, Gleyber Torres, Espinoza, Robles, DeLeon , Martes, Tim Anderson, Arcia, Ho Park, Maeda, Bregman, Mateo, Daniel Robertson, Bobby Bradley, Sean Newcomb, Kyle Tucker, Alford, Mallex Smith, Austin Riley, Ian Happ, Manaea, Honeywell, Bellinger

looking back there were some questionable picks but things were different a year ago. Bellinger with the last pick in the draft turned out to be a great! Swanson went Second overall which was a reach considering Rodgers was out there among other guys.

You also have to remember we have a 10 max system which affects some teams who are almost maxed out.  They may look for guys that are closer to the majors opposed to grabbing an 18 year old even though the 18 year old may have higher upside.

Ours is a kinda weird format, so not sure how helpful it'll be to you guys. We keep 25 of 30 players each year in our points dynasty league going into our 3rd year, so there's 5 rounds of drafting in the major league draft, plus a few more rounds for the teams that keep less than 25 players and need to fill out our rosters. Only rules for the major league draft is that the player must be in the ESPN player pool (this year we added a clause that it was ok to draft players taken in the 2016 MLB draft in the real world, as ESPN was slow to update their pool, we wanted to get drafting, and assumed most all players taken in the '16 draft would be added to the player pool eventually). So not a true prospect draft, but some were available. Here's the results-

1. - Nick Senzel (3B)
2. - Michael Kopech (P)
3. - Tony Watson (RP)

After the major league draft, we had a minor league draft. Currently had 5 slots per team, but we expanded to 6 this year. You could keep all 5 players from your minor league team, with no minimum number you had to keep, so each team had at least 1 pick. Rules for this draft is that any player is available across any level of baseball, regardless if they're in ESPN's player pool or not. Just can't be on someone's roster already. Players must have less than 65 MLB at bats or 25 MLB innings pitched to be placed on minor league rosters. Here's the results from the minor league draft-

Round 1
1. - Kevin Newman (SS)
2. - J.B. Bukauskas (P)
3. - Kevin Maitan (SS)
4. - Hunter Greene (P)
5. -  Vladimir Guerrero Jr (3B)

6. - Max Fried (SP)
7. - Stephen Gonsalves (SP)
8. - Alex Verdugo (OF)
9. - Hunter Dozier (OF)
10. - Luis Urias (2B)
11. - Seth Beer (1B/OF)
12. - Franklin Barreto (SS)

Round 2
13. - Corey Ray (OF)
14. - Luis Robert (OF)
15. - Alex Faedo (P)
16. - Dylan Cease (P)
17. - Jordan Montgomery (SP)
18. - Ty Blach (SP)

Round 3
19. - Kyle Wright (SP)
20. - Tanner Houck (SP)
21. - Dakota Hudson (SP)

I drafted Senzel, Watson, Tapia, Shoemaker, and Gohara in the major league draft and was content with that. Had the 1st and 3rd overall picks and would have taken Kopech 3rd, but was pumped to get Senzel. Also pleased I was able to get Tapia as late as I did. It's always an interesting balance in our major league drafts to take guys that can help your team immediately vs. guys that can help your team a few years down the road

In the minor league draft, I got Maitan and Guerrero Jr. and 3rd and 5th overall and was very happy about that

I know our format is a bit different that some of the other results that have been posted, but hopefully this can help people out in some regard or is at least mildly interesting

You did really well in the minor league draft. I'm surprised Newman and Bukauskas went ahead of Vlad and Maitan but their loss is your gain. They are both really young but they could be well worth the wait. There is big time upside there. Newman at #1 is crazy to me because he doesn't project to be a high upside player. I would have definitely went with a higher upside option.

Yeah I was a bit surprised at some of the names taken. Obviously this being our 3rd year, all of the sexy names like Moncada, Benintendi, etc all the way down to the Bellinger and Alvarez type guys are long gone, but I was pleasantly surprised I was able to get the 2 guys I wanted. I was considering trying to trade for the 1st overall thinking that Maitan go top 2, so glad I held off and got him with my original pick

Had my non-protected and draftee player auction yesterday. For context, this is a 20-team H2H points league with 18 starters (11 bats and 7 arms--5 sp 2rp) and 22 reserve slots. A $550 hard cap and 10% yearly inflation rate. Can keep as many as you want as long as your sit beneath the cap. With this many teams/player slots it is tough to have much depth and bigger prospects are highly coveted. Here is the prices of some of the bigger names I was keeping track of:

Senzel $21

K Lewis $11

C Ray $10

Rutherford $13

M Manning $11

AJ Puk $16

M Thaiss $10

Z Collins $10

F Whitley $10

L Erceg $20

C Quantrill $12

Dakota Hudson $4

J Wentz $8

Justin Dunn $2

L Gurriel $11

Y Gurriel $26

J Soto $8

Delvin Perez $9

Alex Kirilloff $9

Kevin Maitan $33!

Mikey Moniak $10

Eric Thames $25

Bo Bichette $6

B Garrett $10

Riley Pint $14

F Tatis Jr $1

Jason Groome $15

Ian Anderson $11

Alec Hanson $2

Hope this adds a little perspective from an auction standpoint!
