Travis Burten

Aaron Hicks 2017 Outlook

Recommended Posts

5/16 so far with a coupe of home runs, but key thing is that he has a 5/1 BB/K ratio so far. It may just be an aberration, but usually before hitters really break out, you see a good trend in their K and BB rates. Hicks always had good habits at the plate, but it hasn't culminated over a full year. Anything to see here?

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Unless an injury comes up long term, no way he gets enough PT to have value.

Picked him up in a deep league. 2 home runs puts him on the radar for me.  Like @Travis Burten, it's probably nothing but he's still young enough (27) where he could breakout to be a decent fantasy OF.

Seems like Judge/Ellsbury/Gardner is the main 3 OF. but it seems like he's going to get a lot of AB as a 4th OF for now. One injury and he gets even more PT.

2-3, with a bomb and another walk. Hopefully the PT is regular

It's not. Would take an injury for AB's. Holliday DTD

Can we please start getting this guy regular ABs?!  Enough is enough, Girardi.  Hicks is not just a lefty specialist, geesh.  On a side note, the broadcast crew was talking about him taking groundballs at SS.  Probably just on an emergency basis, but they seemed serious about it.

It's got to be getting harder and harder for Girardi to keep Hicks out of the lineup. Every time he gets in there it seems like he has been automatic with production.

Till an injury does he play enough? As the 4th OF he only has 27AB for the season which is around 20 less then the rest. Had my hopes up where I have a team ravaged by injuries.

He should be starting over Gardner.  Gardner is what the French call...I don't know how to say garbage in French...so, whatever that word is in French...he's that, too.

What a s--- trade we made. JR Murphy blows. Would be nice to have Hicks considering Buxton's struggles. Traded Gomez, Span, Revere, Hicks, and will probably trade Buxton down the line where he will become a good player with a different organization. #JustTwinsThings

He has nice plate discipline and a good swing.   Wish he played first base and send bird down for awhile.

He had one of the worst ABs I've seen from a major leaguer this season in the 9th today. Bases loaded, 1 out, Tony Watson on the bump and he swings through 3 straight pitches, none of which were particularly nasty. Basically ended the game considering Pete Kozma was on deck.

I've seen all his ABs and I had the misfortune of watching him last season... this is not a guy who, even if he had a path to playing time(the Yankees will stick with Gardner for a long time), that's going to provide fantasy value.

Hard to get a read on him because he isn't playing every day but a 17.5 walk with a 12 k rate is nuts. His babip is normal. Woba of 440. ISO north of 300 and an ops north of 1000. These are God like small sample size numbers. He's not nearly that good, but are we seeing some level of breakout that can be maintained? I think a lineup spot opens up soon and if he even hits 75 percent of what he's been doing he's keeping it.

I guess this is a few weeks old, but you see not higher? His numbers are ridiculous

Also a friendly reminder to change that Damn avatar.

He should be getting regular ABs with Ellsbury injured, no? It may be short lived, depending on if there's a DL stint or not, but he's worth an add if you've got the room imo.

Done!

I think he's worth a shot if you're in a deeper league. Ellsbury will probably milk this latest bruise for all its worth so Hicks will likely get a good 6-7 starts in a row. Will be interesting to see how the numbers shake out a few weeks from now.

Alright guys, Jacoby Ellsbury is likely for the DL. We will get to see Hicks get some regular AB. He's often been batting 2nd. He has some power and speed to offer and his early season rates have been incredible.

Im quite curious to see how this plays out. His stock could take off.

I've already grabbed in some deeper leagues, but completely agree ... we could be looking at a major breakout in what's looking like a pretty fearsome lineup.

Even once Ells returns, I think we could see Hicks manning CF with Ells in LF, Gardner at DH, Holiday at 1B.  It's not like Bird or Carter are hitting right now.

Really can't imagine that happening. Gardner's still one of the best LF in the league. And he's been a mainstay out there for a decade now. Girardi's not gonna move him to DH unless there's some sort of nagging injury that prevents him from playing the field everyday. Best bet is Ellsbury/Gardner missing extended time which is pretty likely given their injury histories.

Let's also not forget Holliday could get hurt too and of course there's also a chance Judge could.  I'm very optimistic about Hicks but I agree if everyone is healthy it's not going to be easy to get AB, but this kind of reminds me of the Conforto situation earlier this year. I think as long as Hicks can remotely keep this up he will find a way into the lineup.

Digging into some of the numbers from last year, he had a 780 ops with 5 hr in 100 ab in August and September.

At the very least I think Aaron Hicks is a much better player than we came into the season.
