Rotoworld NFL Player News writer seems to hate white QBs

Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed this? Look at the praise heaped upon Deshone Kizer, who had a QB rating of 28 yesterday. ' Kizer wasn't great in Saturday's win over Tampa Bay but he's been Cleveland's best quarterback throughout the summer and deserves to lead the rebuilding Browns in 2017....' and  'Kizer was better than his overall stat line suggests...' and more excuses.

Compare to Christian Hackenberg

'It was another faceplant from Hackenberg after a disastrous showing last week. He continued to look completely lost on the field. His preseason has done nothing but confirm a wasted-pick narrative.'

When Hackenberg was 18/25 for 125, there is a pointed effort to downplay:

'The Jets made it clear early their main goal was to build Hackenberg's confidence, calling safe plays. Hackenberg avoided big mistakes, but also failed to make anything of note happen. His 5.01 yards per attempt was positively Gabbert-ian. All in all, considering the lack of talent on the field with Hackenberg, it was an inconclusive game. Hackenberg isn't in the mix to start Week 1. That job still belongs to Josh McCown.'

Mallett:

Mallett was hardly better, and will enter Thursday's preseason finale 28-of-50 (56 percent) for 229 yards (4.58 YPA), one touchdown and two interceptions. He's looked even worse than those abysmal numbers. He simply can't move an NFL offense, and has no feel for the professional game.

Siemian:

The Broncos envision Siemian as a capped-ceiling placeholder quarterback, but he gives the team its best chance to win now. The Broncos should probably look into acquiring Tyrod Taylor to add more talent to the room.

Savage

Tom Savage is more advanced as a pocket passer, but Watson's playmaking ability is going to be needed by the Texans sooner rather than later.

Tolzien

A 2014 UDFA, Morris has never played in the regular season, but the Colts may be reaching "how much worse can he be than Scott Tolzien?" territory.

I'm not saying that any of these are great QBs or that they will even be more than career backups. But the angry utter contempt for players like Hackenberg, Mallett and Tolzien just drips from the page.

Compare the hatred for these QBs compared to the amplification of any success and soft pedaling of every fault shown for Kizer, Tyrod Taylor, Watson, and every other black QB contender over the last several years on this website.

Geno Smith completed 7-of-13 passes for 65 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception in the Jets' Week 13 loss to the Dolphins on Monday night.

Smith was just 4-of-8 passing before the final drive when the Jets had to let him throw the ball down 16-13 with under two minutes to play. OC Marty Mornhinweg dialed up the ground game early and often, running it 14 consecutive times and 21-of-22 times at one point in the first half. It was working, as the Jets managed 210 yards rushing in the opening 30 minutes. But it showed just how little (or zero) confidence they have in Smith. He predictably tossed an inevitable interception on the Jets' final play to seal the three-point loss. Geno is the worst starting quarterback in the NFL.

The Jets have named Geno Smith their starting quarterback for Week 13 against the Dolphins.

Unfortunately, we'll all be subjected to this nightmare of a quarterback situation on Monday Night Football. At this point, it doesn't even matter who starts under center for the Jets. Both Smith and Michael Vick are beyond horrible, having nothing but a negative effect on the entire pass game. Eric Decker and Percy Harvin don't receive a boost or downgrade, while Smith is obviously not even an option in two-quarterback leagues. GM John Idzik likely forced coach Rex Ryan's hand here to get one last look at Geno.

Colin Kaepernick completed 16-of-34 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown, and one interception and rushed nine times for 84 yards in the 49ers' Week 7 loss to the Buccaneers.

He also fumbled twice -- losing one -- and took four sacks. Kap's rushing stats give him fantasy value, but he is one of the worst passers in the league and is essentially a chicken with his head cut off running around the field. He has also torpedoed the fantasy value of Jeremy Kerley. The 49ers go on their bye in Week 8. Kaepernick can be dropped in leagues where he was streamed.

Michael Vick completed 13-of-26 passes for 203 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Steelers' Week 5 win over the Chargers on Monday night.

Vick was downright horrific much of the night. He could have easily been picked off 4-6 times on bad throws, particularly a couple to Markus Wheaton on out-breaking routes when Chargers' cornerbacks simply dropped the ball. But Vick showed intestinal fortitude late in the fourth quarter, hooking up with Wheaton on a 72-yard, deep-ball touchdown to tie the game 17-17 with 7:42 left. With the Steelers then trailing 20-17, Vick drilled a pass down the middle to Heath Miller at the one-yard line with five seconds left on the clock. Le'Veon Bell punched it in on the next play for the game-winning score. Vick is likely to make at least one more start Week 6 against Arizona. He'll be a bottom-barrel fantasy option.

It's not uncommon for the Rotoworld writers to rip bad quarterbacks, regardless of race/ethnicity:

The Jets benched Mark Sanchez for Greg McElroy in the third quarter of Sunday's Week 13 game against the Cardinals.
Sanchez was almost indescribably brutal, going 10-of-21 for 97 yards and three interceptions. He was picked off on 33 percent of his initial nine dropbacks and failed to move the offense thereafter. When Sanchez was pulled with roughly five minutes left in the third, the Jets had zero points. McElroy isn't the long-term answer, but it's comforting to know that the long-delusional Jets are finally seeing the light on "Sanchize": He's not an NFL starter.
