Who in their right mind would draft Embiid over Whiteside

I'm not in my right mind and own him on 100% of my 2 teams, that said even in my crazy state I'd take Whiteside over him.

I just think personally what you're gambling for in Embiid isn't really worth what you could reliably get out of Whiteside. I don't actually feel that strongly about it, I just think that guy has some stupid bias I wanted to call out :D

just drafted him yesterday in one of my leagues haha 30th pick(round 3). I stashed a lot of centers as back up in case he won't play a lot. This is a ver high risk/ high reward

Bingo

Embiid is great and at 30th pick, I'd say that is where he should go. Might have even got a bargain.

But Whiteside has to go before Embiid. If both are healthy, they'd be ranked not far apart from each other. Top 10 to 15 range.

But there's a much higher injury risk with embiid as we all know. This could easily turn into a whiteside 1st, early 2nd round value and embiid season ending again. Embiid has higher ceiling but I see less incentive drafting around where whiteside is getting drafted with so much more risk.

The amt of risk > the potential benefit of drafting embiid at whitesides draft position.

Regardless, both are going to put up some ridiculous games

Wow. 16 minute restriction for opening night.  Guess I shouldnt be surprised.

He can do a lot of damage in limited minutes but would be a bit concerned if I owned him. Surprised there is more chatter on this.

I would expect minutes to increase as the games go on. The fans will start voicing their displeasure if he's sitting on the bench looking grumpy. Especially if they take him out at the end of close games and the Sixers lose. He's saying he's completely healthy, so at some point you have to unleash him.

The minute restriction really doesn't matter. Games played is all that matters. They will force feed him whenever he has minutes in the teens on the court. Plus, is anyone surprised? I think the world has Embiid minutes limit fatigue. It is a constant. The dude has never played an NBA regular season game without a minutes restriction.

If doctors are saying 16 minutes is where he is at, he is just going to be on a career minutes limit. If you aren't healthy, you don't play preseason. If you aren't healthy, you can't get in shape enough to play. If you are playing preseason, which he was, then he should be active enough to get his stamina and body ready to play minutes in the 20s. He has had plenty of time to get his conditioning in place. I think this is a basketball instance of an ace pitcher that  can't stay healthy to throw 200+ innings in a season and gets turned into a specialist/closer. Short stints of Embiid is better than no stints.

Embiid "fell" to 32 in a expensive entry draft of mine last night (Aaron Bruski took him there). When there is a lot of money on the line people tend to be more risk averse early. I have no stake in Embiid this year, by design, aside from being a Sixers fan. I get the talent. I get the upside if he plays. I can't see him suiting up for 75% of the season.

All that said, I am super excited to see the Sixers with Embiid. I am excited to see how they fare. I am being down on Embiid because I spent this entire fantasy offseason making sure I stayed disciplined and didn't let emotion sway me in drafting him unless I got paid for the injury risk. I hope for every fantasy owner and the NBA in general he plays 70+ games this year (including the upcoming deep playoff run :D)

WOW! 16 minute restriction...I expect it to remain that way for at least a week or maybe a month....then he'll be back to his usually 0 minutes.

16minutes a game is better than no games... I own Embiid in one league that drafted yesterday. We all know the risks, let's just hope for 20 & 10 with 5 blks 5steals 5 triples in 16minutes

Already regretting drafting him , I am not sure if an extended 16 min restriction makes any sense. I expect to see DNPs soon, no way he plays back to back.

But you knew this when you drafted him. Right? I can't see how anyone thought he was playing B2B to start the season.

The minutes cap shouldn't bother any owner. All that matters is the DNPs. Again, the guy has never played an NBA game without a minutes restriction, he missed all offseason with knee surgery, he was held back in preseason....none of this should be a surprise. Once he throws down 18 and 8 in 16 minutes you will chill....until he sits out one of the B2B....

I swear this guy is so immature. With his comments yesterday about the minute restrictions it just makes me question whether he remembers he was injured the past 2 seasons or not. Needs to chill the eff out and start acting like a pro.

Past 3 seasons.haha. The problem is, Covington got injured later than him (meniscus as well) and yet he will be given a full load. While Embiid, with no recent complication in his Foot will be restricted again? Is he a slow healer or his foot is not yet fully healed?

Not sure, but don't know whether the clause in his contract has something to do with this. Is he worried he won't get paid? Dunno, but he should follow the doctors procedures before going crazy

we are so quick to bash these guys when they sit games out for rest or bogus ailments. Now we are going to bash the kid for wanting to get out there and play? isn't this the kind of attitude we want from our star athletes and which has lamentably been lost?

No, you don't understand. All I'm saying is that there is a reason he is on minute restriction, he should be mature enough to know that

He's currently over 20 minutes right now. Nice to see since he was only expected to play in the teens tonight.

Blew past the 16 minutes with 27.  I know I posted it earlier but now that I think about it, I don't know what the source for the 16 minute restriction was ever attributed to.

Anyways, encouraging sign if you have Embid shares.  Minutes and DNP will be factors all season but nearly doubling his alleged minute restriction and no apparent set backs have to be considered very positive.

It was good to see him out there for more than 16 minutes for sure.  Encouraging.  Even sitting out back to backs he will still return a nice value.

Joel Embiid says he will not play tomorrow in Toronto. Anticipated playing a back to back at some point this year though.

The per minute production is absolutely insane. Biggest if in the world obv but if he plays 30+ MPG ever he's a lock for top 10 value

3 fouls in the 1st quarter. Why did they leave him in after he picked up the 2nd??

So he could continue to cook Tarik Black. With the weird way his minutes are staggered he was essentially in the second quarter.
