Mets manager Mickey Callaway said Thursday that he expects Jacob deGrom (elbow) to make his next start Monday against the Reds.

Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reported Thursday morning that deGrom would miss at least four starts with a hyperextended right elbow, but it sounds like that was inaccurate. The 29-year-old right-hander is planning to throw Friday and there should be something more official after that workout. He injured the elbow on a swing Wednesday night against the Braves. An MRI showed no structural damage.

PLEASE skip atleast 1 start

He is going to 'try' to start!?  Unreal.  Once again, the Mets are really the worst organization in baseball when it comes to handling medical issues.  Why would you even risk him starting or throwing even at this point?  Give him a week, at least, and do another MRI to see if there is any on-going swelling/inflammation.  But PLEASE DO NOT LET HIM THROW AT ALL for at least a week. Ugh.

Maybe it wasn't hyperextended after all he just felt something and was just removed as a precaution? MRI isn't showing anything, maybe nothings wrong.

He is their co-ace so they desperately need him out there every 5th day, doing the job he's paid to do. Especially with the back of the rotation in tatters.

Mets Medical Staff Spokesman:  "After thoroughly looking at the leg ... uh ... arm ... we have determined it is still attached we think so he is good to go."

In totally unrelated news a local hardware store owner who lives above his store said he was awaken late last night by a man demanding he re-open his store for a medical emergency.  He identified himself as the NY Mets team doctor.  After buying a whole case of duct tape the man quickly hurried away into the night.

They wouldn't let him start if he couldn't.

I get the Mets jokes but maybe he's not hurt and it was just a scare.

All this crying when Cueto is actually hurt.

They did just that with Syndergaard last season. He tore his lat in the very next start after refusing an MRI.

Well Degrom had his MRI. The Mets are well aware of the PR situation and how their medical staff is viewed. I really don't see them making another foolish mistake

A couple of things. I agree with PPolanco that maybe the injury was exaggerated and he's not that hurt. It's been stated that DeGrom has only felt this while hitting. Therefore, it's not a big deal that he's going to attempt to pitch through this. Trust me, if he feels ANYTHING, they are not going to let him take the mound next Monday. Also, post-game, Todd Frazier was interviewed and said that he's actually "hyperextended" his elbow dozens of times throughout his career and approximately 4 times already this year. And each time he was able to play through it without pain. So perhaps this is an issue of semantics and they are using the term "hyperextended elbow" differently than it's used in the medical field.

All in all, I am very relieved with this latest news.

It's the Mets.  We have been down this road before.

Also, it sounds like it was more than "removed as a precaution" as he removed himself after trying to gut it out. If he was alright, he probably wouldn't have done that.

The fact they let him go another inning was just awful.

The last part of your statement is exactly why they lost Thor for a huge portion of the season last year.  Missing one start is better than missing 2 months.

Some teams I would trust on this.  It's the Mets though.  They probably did the MRI on the wrong arm.
