Manny Machado 2018 Outlook

Not for me, his BB% is too low and I'm not a fan of the lineup. Early second rounder, in my opinion.

Good point about the lineup.  With the exception of Chris Davis everyone has a sub-par BB%.  That could really affect him getting pitched around even more.

He's still great but I'd still much rather draft Freeman or a stud pitcher so I don't see how this puts him into the first round.

I was hoping Machado would be cheaper this year but you still have to get him in the second round. His value does go way up if he ends up playing SS though.

I'm buying in on Machado this season in the 15-20 range.

SS eligibility and UFA status are reasons.

With a weaker lineup around, I see him possibly selling out for HR's more. Something around 269/44/105

Any chance Machado moves back to 3rd after this season? I've got Turner at SS with no MI spot in a keeper league so I'm a little worried.

I think the O’s want to raise his price by moving him to SS to showcase his D at both spots on the left side. He’s also been adamant about playing SS since he came into the league and that may factor in to where he signs next season. I would be a little worried but I do see him as a 3B long term.

I think he's gonna have his best year yet  -- fantasy-wise it'll be hard to top 35-20 of '15 -- but real life-wise, RC+ wise .

For the CBS leaguers, since he's not SS eligible, should we expect to have him SS qualified by ~20 games?

Depends on your league settings. Mine is 10 games, others range from 5-20. Gotta check your league details.

I've got Correa as my SS and have the same issue as yours; I've drafted Riley and continue to keep an eye on other teams' 3B for trades in preparation of potentially losing Machado at 3B. I do hope he will still play some 3B to continue the eligibility.

I am not familiar with the defensive metrics; but his stats at both SS and 3B do share the same sentiment as yours by looking at RTOT and RDRS and I certainly hope you are right!

Double, BB, SB to start the year...   that SB is great to see already after that big fat zero he dropped a couple years ago!

Calm down people, the season is less than a week old, he'll be alright. He got off to a slow start last year as well, and look at how he finished.

I'm new to this forum, that is true. I've been active in the fantasy basketball forum here for a while though, and patience is a foreign concept to them as well haha

You're right, everyone should calm down, no point in getting carried away too much this early -- but please don't ever bring up last year. It was a horribly inconsistent year for Machado and the thought of him doing it again has me nauseous.

so true.   Last year is not what owners want.  He ended up a disappointment in total

People are already speculating how much money he's going to earn in free agency. Am I the only one that thinks he isn't worth top dollar? Career .330 OBP and OPS in the low .800s. Not my idea of elite. Harper on the other hand...
