Justin Bour 2018 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Have people been holding onto Bour? He was dropped in my league and he's an intriguing name and also a possible trade candidate. Also seems to be heating up lately.

On pace to top his career high of 25 homers from last season. I'm sure that's useful in a majority of leagues.

Depends on what is available. Kept him in one, dropped him for Franco in another. The power will be there but I am concerned his poor team context will limit his RBIs and runs.

I have. He sucked in APril last year too.  He'll be fine and probably hit near 300 again

I am...I originally picked him up when he was dropped with a plan of deploying as righty specialist, and using him against lefties only when I didn't have clearly better options.

That said, as I look at it, yeah he's past the traditional "prime" age, but still, this guy's OPS has improved every single year in the show.  I know it's a small sample size for this year, but now he's taking even more walks, and to me it's like, I don't see why this guy still can't be improving at this pt as hitter.  If the walks stick this guy will likely be crazy for where he's getting picked up.

Getting traded is just the gravy to me.  He was basically on a 40 hr pace last year with more than half of the homers he hit coming at home.  If he's traded, it's likely to a better offensive team, and he's pretty much shown he's park proof, so its like worse case scenario his new home is damn near a wash.  The likely scenario is that his home park improves in a trade too tho.

I think its a great situation to bet on for this cheap, win or lose.

Guy is hitting .083 for me this week with a .450 OBP. Teams seem to just not be pitching to him, which will shortly land him on the waiver wire.

I been calling this guy "fat Votto" because of the pumped up walk rate

This starting to remind me of Adrian Gonzalez 2009 padres season.  He had a similar walk rate; he was the only serious threat on the team at the time, pretty much just like Bour is now.  Gonzo hit 40 bombs that year, Bour's power is not too far from that (if arguably equal), but his problem is remaining healthy.

Anyway, he's slowly rounding into OBP/BB league gold.  he'll def be a .900+ OPS guy if this continues, because he doesn't K as much as lot of the big power guys do.

Dream scenario for me would be Greg Bird stepping on a lego after his rehab, knocking him out for the year and the Yankees trade for him. I don’t actually want Bird to get hurt obviously but Bour in Yankee stadium in that lineup would be awesome.

Thought this guy would be a sneaky pickup in an OBP league with all of the walks, but this week he's not doing much. No home runs, RBI's, etc. Wondering whether it was a mistake.

Drop-worthy at this point? Plays in a brutal lineup and has essentially no counting stats to go along with a .230 average eight weeks into the season now. He seems to just be pitched around every at bat because of his terrible supporting cast, hence the high OBP.

In an AVG. league, I don't see his value. In an OBP though, he won't hurt you if nothing else. Is like a Top 5 league leader in walks right now.

In my opinion yes. The counting stats are rather bare. He's a drop and wait and see if he gets traded to a better team later in the year. I am in a obp and while he gave a boost in obp, there  was not much else there and I finally dropped him for Jesus Aguilar.

This year with RISP: .198 AVG and .308 wOBA

Career with RISP: .287 AVG and .379 wOBA

Question is whether this is just bad luck or an effect of how he’s getting pitched with the lineup around him.

With departures of Stanton and Ozuna, also Yelich, that can take a toll on his numbers and what pitches he gets to hit in a much weaker lineup. He's warmed up a tad, the walks and OB has given him a little boost in value. A trade to a better team would be nice, haven't really heard his names in talks recently though.

Keep thinking this guy is going to come around due to his superb on base ability.

Anyone have any hope here?

For me, I'm extremely satisfied with Bour as I have him in a OBP/BB daily league and like the majority of people who own him, got him real real cheap.  He's returning the value I need as I bounce him around to 1B/CI/Util as needed.  I'm getting value myself.

I'd probably feel less inclined to be okay with him if I owned him in a standard 4x4 or 5x5 non-OBP league that set weekly starters.  But I avoided him in those two situations I have.

Santana’s going back to catcher lol.

I wanted about to get traded, but to somewhere with a spot for him!

might platoon with santana. bour can't hit lefties, santana can't hit righties

Situation is perfect for real-life baseball.  Not so great for fantasy.

.778 OPS vs. LHP, .749 OPS vs. RHP this year.  Bour mashes RHP and will do fine at CBP, but I think this is more about giving Santana a breather against the toughest righties, not really a conventional platoon.

I can understand why the Phillies did this. If the talent is great enough and the cost cheap enough, why wouldn't you grab a player? But damn if this doesn't kill his playing time.
