Jack Flaherty 2018 Outlook

Recommended Posts

I don't think it would be unwise to sit Flaherty tonight.  The Brewers are mashing.  Aaron Nola came into Milwaukee his last start on a roll and the Brewers manhandled him.

Agree ! on the road against a tough divisional opponent looks like a smart sit if you can afford to do so.

I understand it's not the perfect matchup, but I'm not sitting a guy with a 2.66/1.09 and 10 K/9.

I agree. To me those are must-start type numbers. He's off to a good start at least. We'll see.

Road starts are a b*tch no matter the pitcher.  Not only is it more difficult to pitch on the road but it is difficulty to get run support.  We got one part tonight but not the other.

I always used to wonder with Las Vegas wagering odds why teams even with aces pitching would not be heavy favorites.

Looking forward to today to see if can sustain his success from his last start.

A little concerned he might be fatigued after the increase in velocity his last start.

not sure what to do with him tonight between a bad last start and arizona's hitters.

probably going to leave him on the bench.

He might need to start throwing that slider more.  Not sure his fastball is good enough to throw it as often as he does.

Do metrics say he has a home run problem?

His highest HR/FB% in the minors was ~10.0%. His MLB HR/FB% is ~18.0%. Maybe that comes down some, but the baseballs are also different.

Flaherty has gone 11 straight starts of allowing 5 hits or less. This kid is so damn good. Only 22 years old too.
