David Peralta 2018 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Good news is he has 11 home runs which is very respectable.

On the other hand it looks like he is done hitting leadoff.  He was decent vs. left handed pitchers last season but if he is in a platoon at the bottom of the order his value takes a significant hit.

He's been hitting 5 lately,  not at the bottom.  He's still a hold to me.  He's already almost equaled his hr total from last year without destroying his k rate,  and the BBs are respectable and slightly up.

I want to see where this goes, the offense can't be this bad.  I can see a standard mix league drop,  but if there's a .800 -.850 ops in here he still has value for a lot of us.

Batting 6th in between John Ryan Murphy/Descalso and Ketel Marte/Jarrod Dyson.

Goodbye counting stats

(I actually like all those players to some extent but getting on base isn't their forte

I am wondering if we have more than just a hot hitter.  Last nights home runs were not cheapies.  One was a bomb to center.  The other was crushed to right.

Did he have a swing change?

Mentioned this in the game day thread, but he passes the "eye" test to me.... just looks like a ball player

Not a ton different on the ole fangraphs page... except his hard hit is ginormusly up. Hr/fb is rather large,  but if he's mashing this hard that could be mostly real.  LD and FB are both up,  but only about 2%. That hard hit tho,  up from 32 to 49%, that's just nasty.

Ks are up a bit,  but I'm ok with that if it means astronomical power gains.  Now we just need him to stay healthy.

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/you-should-believe-in-david-peralta/

That's an article from 2016. I don't think we have a swing change,  so much as natural growth from a player that's been given a big role,  and is currently healthy.

His Hard% vs righties is 53,3%. That's 2nd in the Majors. He's crushing righties so far.

Yea.  Probably one of the most underrated fantasy players this season.

Traded for him at the deadline today and may end up rolling with the freight train as my 4th keeper. Hope he keeps it up for the Dbacks and my fantasy squad!

Peralta is quietly having a pretty good season.  He only has 2 pages right now, so I'd say that qualifies as quietly.  That and I don't even really read much about him from "experts".

Anyways, he hit a 3-run bomb tonight in the first inning.  He's been insane in August, hitting .404 with a 1.235 OPS going into tonight's game.

He just continues to demolish righties:

49.6 Hard% (1st)

.325 AVG (5th)

.956 OPS (7th)

.402 wOBA (7th)

.579 SLG (9th)

153 wRC+ (10th)

Those numbers will look even better after tonight's game.

They better. :)

The key to what his numbers end up being from season to season is how much he kills righties.  He's become adequate enough against lefties to stay out of a platoon, but there are some seasons like this one where he has crushed righties even more than he did the year before.  This is the best season he's ever had against RHP (and obviously the best one period), with 2015 being the next closest.
