richg24 1,759 Posted May 16, 2018 He has the SUSP tag on Yahoo now. If he is in our DL slots with that tag..can we still make regular adds or will it say error because have player in DL spot that is not eligible for DL?  I'm asking because if I can keep him in DL I will likely hold since he should be back mid August.

Cano IS on the DL. He DID have surgery. Suspension fine, but who cares, he has a legitimate DL injury for the next couple months regardless.

lbjames6 2,664 Posted June 12, 2018 Mariners GM came out and said Cano will be a part time player when he comes back and will probably get phased out towards the end of the season. Tough blow for his owners and looking like a lost season.

Dislimb 1,206 Posted June 12, 2018 He still has 5 years left on his contract at 24 million dollars per season. Maybe for this year they’ll play him part time as punishment when he comes back, but he’s going to be their everyday second baseman again next year.

With the way injuries are this year they may just need Cano to make the playoffs.  This smells like sheet to me. Bitterness, idiocy - it's the Mariners.

That's very relevant here with the Mariners playing so well and Dee Gordon doing a fine job at second base. Dipoto said that there could be "a time-share, so to speak, where we keep everybody sharp. But we do know Dee is going to have to play second base as we come down the stretch. Because if we want to be in the postseason -- which we do -- then we know who our second baseman is going to be. And it's going to be Dee Gordon." Cano would still figure to play plenty, as the Mariners will be trying to win games, after all, and Cano is one of their best players. However, if the M's are still in contention late in the year we are likely to see Cano on the bench a lot more often than we're used to.  Jun 11 - 7:43 PM  Also note that the part AFTER the last bold I made is speculation by Rotoworld and not what the Mariners said. roscobangs 270 Posted July 13, 2018 (edited) If he was dropped, and you have room, the time to add Cano is now. With the ASB approaching, team owners will get bored and make room for him. Less than a month of games until he is back in the lineup, and word is he's is willing to play anywhere. On the Mariners, it's hard to imagine a world where he is not playing everyday, whether it's at 3rd, 2nd or 1st. Not to mention, with the surging A's, the Mariners are going to need every win they can get, and Cano will help them in doing that. Again, only do this if you have room. Worst case scenario is you have to drop him in a week or two but at least then someone will have to waste their waiver priority to get him.  PS: Not buying the "but he's not on steroids so he's bad now!" narrative. This guy has arguably the nicest swing in the bigs and has been an all star 8 times. Edited July 13, 2018 by roscobangs
89Topps 2,158 Posted July 13, 2018 That's nonsense. The Mariners are dinking around, losing series to the Rockies and Angels while Oakland is getting back in the race. They're idiots if they think they can bench their best pure hitter and just waltz into the playoffs.  If he's not playing almost full time at 1B, then the Ms don't know their butts from a whole in the ground. tonywow 1,064 Posted July 18, 2018 I was on the fence but just grabbed him. For a team with playoffs in sight, even if Cano wont be a part of it, he can be a huge factor getting the team there. As far as willing to play anywhere, could end up being pretty handy for fantasy. If he got some OF or 1B starts/eligibility and hits well over the second half, he'd seemingly be pretty valuable ROS. I don't think he'll be riding the pine once he comes back and feel he's going to get plenty of PT.
