New ESPN Keeper League

Recommended Posts

Looking to find 8-12 dedicated players for a newly forming ESPN keeper league. League rules are as follows:

Teams:

The league will be composed of 16 teams and 4 divisions (National League East, National League West, American League East, and American League West). Team names will remain unchanged to reflect teams in the actual divisions of Major League Baseball. Profile pictures should also represent the logo of the Major League Baseball team. If an owner would like to change a team name to another team within that particular Major League Baseball division approval from the commissioner must be granted.

Draft:

The inaugural draft will be held on Friday March 30, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. EST. During this draft 35 players will be selected by each team from the major and minor leagues. This will be the longest draft for the league since it will be the initial one.

Keepers:

After completion of the 2018 Fantasy Baseball Season teams will be required to select 20 keepers for the 2019 Fantasy Baseball Season. If 20 keepers are not selected the league commissioner will do so for the owner(s) at fault. During 2020 and years after teams will be required to keep 25 players. These players can be a mixture of MLB and minor leaguers.

Each player will be designated a year after being drafted or picked up via free agency. For example, a player drafted in the inaugural 2018 draft will automatically become a keeper 1. This player will maintain this status until the end of the season even if this player was placed on waivers. The claiming team will still have a player with keeper 1 status. Players can be kept a maximum of 4 years. When players reach a keeper 4 status that will be the last year being a keeper for that particular team. At the end of the season that player will be required to return to the Fantasy Draft.

Minor league baseball players will all be designated a keeper 0 status. If a minor league player makes an appearance before the MLB All-Star Game on July 17, 2018 the keeper status of 0 will change to a 1. If a minor league player makes a post All-Star Game appearance the keeper clock will remain at 0.

Roster:

Each roster will hold 35 players. At any time only 25 active MLB players will be permitted. The remaining 10 roster positions are to be reserved for minor leaguers. Therefore, if one of the minor league players on your roster is called up to the big leagues you will need to adjust your roster to reflect 25 active MLB players. If your roster is above 25 active MLB players the commissioner will first fine your team $5 from your free agent auction budget and e-mail the owner. The owner will have one day to make adjustments. If adjustments are not made the team will be fined an additional $10 and another e-mail sent. Finally, the commissioner reserves the right to adjust any rosters that refuse to be in compliance with the rules by dropping the last acquired MLB player to take the place of the minor league prospect. There will be 3 spots for players on the DL. When a player is on the DL they will not count toward the active MLB roster. Once a player is eligible the owner will have a maximum of one week to activate the player from the DL. If the player is not activated after a week the same penalties stated above will take place.

*On September 1st roster limits will no longer take place due to the expansion of rosters.

Game Limits/Maximums:

Each matchup will consist of a maximum of 8 starts. Choose your starts wisely. If more than 8 starts are made the scoring of each matchup will be adjusted. The owner who starts more will have the average score of their starts per week subtracted from the total score. This will occur as many times as necessary over the maximum of 8.  Matchup results will be adjusted to represent the new score minus the penalty.

Acquisitions and Waivers:

The player acquisition system will be a free agent auction occurring every Wednesday and Sunday at 10:00 p.m. EST. Each team will be granted $125 at the start of the season for their free agent budget. A minimum of $1 must be spent on each acquisition.

*Each player being selected to the All-Star game will earn an additional $1 toward the Free Agent Auction budget. The All-Star game MVP will be rewarded with $5 additional as well as the Home Run Derby Champion.

Trading:

Trading will be permitted until Friday August 10, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. EST. Any trade can be vetoed by the members of the league if 6 vetoes are received.

Trade Block:

All managers are expected to create and maintain their trading block to encourage interaction throughout the season. Contact e-mail addresses will also be pasted in a league note in case the ESPN mail does not go through successfully.

Draft Order:

The draft order for the next season will be decided in the playoffs. The 12 teams that do not make the playoffs will match up in the consolation bracket. The winner of the consolation bracket will obtain the first overall pick of the draft for the next year. Second place in the consolation bracket will obtain the second pick, third place the third pick, and so on. The remaining four playoff teams will be seeded with the earliest pick being the team finishing in 3rd Place. This will be followed by the 4th place finisher, the 2nd place, and the champion.

Active Owners:

Owners are expected to be active in the league. Please respond to trade inquiries. If an owner is deemed to be inactive for more than a period of 2 consecutive weeks the league owner has permission to look for a replacement.

*Teams currently available are Nationals, Dodgers, Padres, Diamondbacks, Orioles, Red Sox, Yankees, A's, Astros, Mariners, Rangers. Please leave e-mail if you are interested in joining. Only serious inquiries please.
