Yonny Chirinos 2018 Outlook

Recommended Posts

It's early yet, but this start isn't living up to the hype at all considering the quality of the opposition.

I'd take the runs if he was actually getting punchouts.

Hope he didn't get overhyped because of the cold weather.

This has been really quite unpleasant to watch so far. At least this makes my drop choices for tomorrow easier.

It’s been 2 innings and people are running in here to say this guy sucks lol.

Couple weak hits including a bunt. First inning error.

I bet he settles down and goes 5 innings giving up the 2 runs.

Settling a bit.

Not that much. He's still walking too many guys and not getting the punchouts.

He clearly has the pitches to be successful, just doesn’t have it tonight location wise.

??? He has 1 walk. The problem is he has no command at all tonight. Catcher is setting up down and he is leaving the ball up in the zone / in the heart of the plate, or set up down and away and he throws it up & in. If he sets up on the corner he's throwing it too far off the plate where it's clearly a ball.

He just doesn't have it tonight. Drastically different from his other 3 outings.

3 walks but agreed he just doesn't have his stuff tonight. I'm not reading into it at all.

The problem with this start isn't even the specific numbers.

The problem is that the Rays are really weird, so who knows what they do with him now. It's not like he demanded or carved a permanent rotation spot out for himself tonight.

man every ball was hit hard by the Rangers tonight lol even most of the grounders.  Chirinos had nothing tonight.

Yep, should've been much worse. He looked awful.

Last night was really out of character for him. Sure, he has a lowish K%, but it's usually OK because of his command. Coming into last night's game, his BB/9 was 1.26. His BB/9 is under 1.5 for his minor league career. But last night he had no control. It's a hold for me to see if he gets his control back and this was just a blip on the radar.

I was listening to the mlb channel on Sirius and someone for the Rays said he was definitely starting on Sunday. Not sure if it was the manager or GM. They were really hyping him up and even downplayed his last outing saying they were happy he at least kept them in the game. Could just be a confidence booster for the kid but that was the general sentiment from the Rays.

It's official. Now we don't have to wait and see if he is gonna go or not on those 'bullpen' days.

Good to see that all it took was a shelling to be named the 4th starter. Sucks I can’t take him out of my weekly league.....

IT was his first bad outing. He might look better tomorrow and everyone is gonna forget about the Texas game.
