Mac Williamson 2018 Outlook

Long over due but what's Mac's deal?

Residual effects of the concussion?

Random noise (ie, HRs are just around the corner)?

Or just not that good?

He's a groundball machine. His GB% is 54.1 and his average launch angle is 0.4 degrees. He's had a painfully high groundball rate at every stop in the minors and majors. His power is legit but he won't have consistent success unless he hits it in the air more regularly.

I thought his swing change was to remedy the GBs?

Easier said than done.  Swing change is the new buzz word,  but it usually takes a long time for a change to permanently stick.  Joey Bats didn't game his high leg kick for over a year of practice.

Does Mac have amnesia? Did he forget how to execute his new swing?

Pre-concussion (19 PA)

GB/FB: 1.1

FB%: 43.8

Post-concussion (43 PA)

GB/FB: 3.8

FB%: 14.8

Seems to me he's forgotten his swing change.  Not saying it actually was the concussion, but he really has forgotten it if he's hitting the ball in the ground so much now.

Proof that swing change isn't the be all to end all. JD Martinez actually got innately better as a hitter, not just a mere swing change.
