I think SD could do better for Ross (not knowing contract details), but drury for Richards sounds fair and 6000% boring.

That would be like swapping celery sticks for plain yogurt at the school lunch table

That’s highway robbery. Yogurt >> celery sticks all day. At least throw in some blue cheese.

An actual trade instead of a rumor!

Quote

Red Sox acquired 1B/OF Steve Pearce from the Blue Jays in exchange for minor league INF Santiago Espinal.

The Red Sox will also receive "cash considerations." Pearce hits left-handers well (.306 AVG vs. southpaws this season) and should be a good complement to Mitch Moreland at first base. He'll fill the Hanley Ramirez role, though the 35-year-old can also play the outfield if needed. Meanwhile Espinal has hit .313 with seven homers and nine steals at High-A ball this year. When Pearce suits up for the Red Sox, he'll have played for all five teams in the American League East. With Toronto unlikely to make the postseason, looks for the Jays to make more moves ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.

The Red Sox were desperate for a right-handed hitter and were rumored t be interested in Mark Canha.  With Pearce they get both a guy who can play there as well as 1B.   Good deal at a cheap price.  Alas it also means that Blake Swihart seems to be on the outs since he was suppose to play at those two positions as well.  Look for him to be moved soon.  He deserves a shot somewhere.

I prefer baseless rumors compared to this trade.

Addison Russell to Miami for Derek Jeter.

In addition to shopping the relievers (Kela and Diekman) and Hamels, Texas should be shopping Mike Minor too.  His velocity has ticked up the past few weeks, and he's been pretty dominant for three turns in a row now, including a near no-hitter last time out.  Get something for that guy before he turns into a pumpkin again.

He's a butcher in the field but he really hits lefties well, good bat of the bench or DH vs lefties

Yeah.  Mainly DH most likely.  But he will also play some 1B when Moreland needs a day off.  Moreland is a gold glover so if they need the D late in a game he can come in for Pearce after the lefty starter leaves too.  Basically like the blurb says, he is meant as Hanley's replacement though he can go into the outfield in an emergency situation as well as a fifth or sixth (Holt can play the OF too) outfielder.

Cards kicking tires again.  Do they ever buy a car though?

Quote

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Cardinals are showing "renewed interest" in Mike Moustakas.

Rosenthal cautions that "the level of that interest is not known" and that the Cards "have yet to engage seriously on any one player." Adding Moustakas would require St. Louis to do some reshuffling in their infield, as Matt Carpenter would have to move move to either second base or first base. "Moose" got off to an excellent .302/.336/.578 start in April this season but has cratered to a .226/.295/.398 line since then. He is slated for free agency again next winter after having to settle for a one-year deal to re-up with the Royals last offseason.

Also Seattle wants a pitcher and Texas has one:

Quote

MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that the Mariners and Rangers "have had dialogue" regarding a potential Cole Hamels trade.

This report comes after one from Morosi stating that it's become "increasingly possible" that Hamels is dealt before the trade deadline. However, he also notes that "no deal is close" between the Mariners and Rangers and "it’s unclear if other suitors are more heavily involved." It's worth noting that Seattle is one of the nine teams Hamels can be traded to without his approval.

Stop with the endless "dialogues" and "talks" and get on with the trades, all of you contenders.  I demand trade entertainment!  Make this thread fun!

Yanks were scouting Fulmer yesterday.  Were interested in him before but Tigs wanted Torres at the time and Yanks said no way with both sides standing firm.

We have a trade!

When I saw Giants and Rangers I got a little excited. But then I looked at the particulars of the deal.

Rangers acquired OF Austin Jackson, RHPs Cody Gearrin and RHP Jason Bahr and cash from the Giants for a player to be named later or cash.

Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News says that the Rangers have told Jackson to hold off on reporting to the club, as it sounds like they could flip him to another team or release him. In other words, this deal was about Texas absorbing Jackson's salary in order to add a solid reliever and pitching prospect. Jackson is batting only .242/.309/.295 this season and is still owed roughly $4.5 million through the end of next year.

Anyone see that O's laughed at Dodgers offering Verdugo and another prospect

If true, they're delusional. They'd be extremely lucky to get that much at this point.

You would think given he is a rental.  But there are now SEVEN teams bidding for his services so yeah the O's may well get more for him.

Being in the Philadelphia area - it seems like the Phillies aren't going to trade what it would take for Machado and are going to take their chances in the offseasons to come. Surprise team this year and ahead of schedule but all moves are being made with 2019 and 2020 in mind.

As they should be IMO. They're a very young team with and excellent young pitching corps, a great farm system, several young underperformers who should improve in Crawford and Kingery, and a ton of salary available.

That not only makes them a potential long-term contender if they play things right, but an attractive landing spot for FAs.  Plus with connections like Jordan, McPhail and Klentak they are arguably the favorites to land Machado this off-season anyway.

Dodgers now rumored to be checking in on several infielders, not just Machado. Also inquiring on S. Gennett, B. Dozier, A. Cabrera, and J. Harrison.

John Heyman
sources: yankees have made a strong offer for manny machado. haven't heard they are the favorite, but they are clearly a player at this point. @Ken_Rosenthal said there was "increased" interest from NYY a couple days ago.

If NYY balking at including Justus Sheffield for Machado they're nuts.  But then again it might be a case of taking him off the table now to make the big concession when you include him later.

Crazy. 3 months doesn’t make sense, since their need is SP.

Only thing that makes sense to me is that Andujar gets dealt for SP help, then they bring Machado in.

Yea this is retarded. As a Yankee fan I do not want this to happen. Zero need for more offense.

Yeah that is the only way a Manny rental makes sense.  O's want Sheffield back as part of the deal the latest Rotoworld blurb says.

Jon Heyman of Fancred reports that the Yankees have made a "strong offer" for Manny Machado.

Heyman hasn't heard whether or not the Yankees are the current favorites to land Machado, but he writes that "they are clearly a player at this point." What exactly they're offering the O's isn't known, but it's worth noting that earlier Wednesday Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that Baltimore would be willing to deal Machado to the Yankees if they were willing to include Justus Sheffield in a package. The Dodgers and Brewers are also seen as big players for Machado, with the Diamondbacks, Phillies, Braves, Cubs and Red Sox also in on talks.

ja happ and fulmer are both light years ahead of Sonny gray at this point in their careers.

loisaga has maybe what 30-40 innings left this year max?  He’s not a post season factor .

German is slightly intriguing .

Running out sevy, past his prime Tanaka, German, and a prayer in CC in a 7 game series?  I’m sorry but that’s not going to get it done vs the stros rotation.  The Yankees have to know this.

degrom and bum are likely pipe dreams... but I agree yeah you empty the clip prospect wise for one of those guys
