Anyone know how many more starts on ESPN before he gets 2b eligibility?

He's at 7, so it will take 3 more.

Is he creeping into keeper status. I picked him up in my 16 team keeper and keep hearing he is playing over h2os head but this seems very real to me.

His HR/FB is 32.8% but that or close to it doesn't seem unsustainable considering his batted ball profile.  JD Martinez is at 34.2% HR/FB with just a tad better batted ball percentages.  His BABIP is .283 so I dont think his decent average is due for a drop or anything.

With his 2B eligibility, he's at least creeped into my mind as a potential guy to round out my group of keepers.

My only concern is whether he does anything like this again next season.  Not saying his season is a fluke and that it would be impossible to duplicate, but it is hard to deny the possibility of that happening next season.  Take away the HR's and that kills his value in non-OBP leagues.  Still, if he keeps this going and hits 35-40 HRs, it will be extremely hard not to roll the dice and see what happens next season.  Since the RBIs will be low-ish, he's essentially becoming a poor man's 2017 Jonathan Schoop.  I say poor-man's only because of the fact that he has no chance at 100 RBI's like Schoop had.  That still is plenty of value for a 2B.

For right now, I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride.  I'll really worry about whether I actually keep him next season later.

Players change.  The learn, develop and grow.  "Over his head" crap is yesterday's player.  Not today's.

See the arguments about JD Martinez in his thread several years back here.  Apparently he wasn't allowed to change and grow either by the typical Stats Boys types of websites out there either.  JD can't do what he is doing because he didn't do it in the past was the type of crap they wrote.  Same with Jacob deGrom.  He came out of nowhere therefore he can't be good.

It doesn't mean that Muncy will be another JD.  it just means that once a player has done it once why can't he do it again.  Yes he could fail after the adjust and re-adjust dance but he could be the next big thing too.  Don't sleep on the latter if he is still going lights out in September in a keeper.  He already has earned a place on rosters next year in dynasty leagues.

I own Muncy in a couple leagues and am a believer in him, but it's really not fair to even mention him in the same sentence as JDM. That guy might be the most extreme outlier EVER in the history of fantasy baseball as far going from noboby to top 5-6 hitter in the game basically overnight mid-career.

Yeah, but you can't blame guys for being skeptical of a 27 year old who develops power (seemingly) out of nowhere. I'm not saying I am...I just don't blame anyone who is. I'll wait until the end of the season to draw my final conclusions.

“Take away the homers and that kills his value”

uhhhhh yea that’s true for most hitters

Bautista, Turner, Taylor are just a few guys who hit my memory as guys who found "power out of nowhere." Notice, two of them found it after joining the Dodgers. Coincidence, maybe not. Also, all the experts said Goldschmidt was playing over his head when he was in the minors. Arenado was never projected to be the stud power hitter he is now. Miggy shocked the world when he became Pujols-lite. Every player is different, and some find ways to defy the odds and the experts.

It may very well be real...I certainly hope so. I'm just not going to fault anyone for being skeptical.

Not really.  Obviously their value would tumble plenty, but take away the power from Trout or Lindor and they would still hold plenty of value.  Lindor would basically be Segura, and we know how good that has been this season.

As much as I like Muncy, it is more true for him because so many of his HRs are solo HRs and his average is fine, but nothing that would drive his value.  If you're in an OBP league, then that's different.

As I've said multiple times in this thread of late, I'm still very high on Muncy, especially with his 2B eligibility.  I was just pointing out a fact.

Thats why I said most.  Basically any non top 10 player or steals specialist it would significantly hurt their value. It’s just a bizarre critique to give to him.

And the solo shots are just bad luck- it won’t keep up.

I suppose it's possible, but only because he hasn't had a day off in a while, not because he's going to sit against very many lefties.

It's between him and bellinger. Last time he was bench was against alefty on 6/29, and bellinger hasn't had a day off longer than that, so they'll likely bench him, though it is Sunday night prime time so who knows

Does anyone know how the Puig injury should be expected to affect Muncy's role in the field? In standard ESPN leagues, he needs to play 2 more games at 2B in order to qualify for eligibility at that position. I for one could really use that.

Muncy's been dubbed as the everyday starting 2B by Robert's,

"07.01... Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Sunday that Max Muncy will be the club's everyday second baseman flung forward." (Guess this could have made the "Rotoworld Blurb Mistake" thread, too..."flung forward.")

and Toles has been recalled,

"07.09... Dodgers placed OF Yasiel Puig on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.
Spin: Puig suffered the injury on a swing during Sunday's game. The Dodgers haven't revealed the results of his MRI yet, but even if the strain is a relatively mild one there's a good chance he will require longer than a minimum DL stay. Andrew Toles has replaced Puig on the roster and should see plenty of playing time.

so I don't think it impacts Muncy's upcoming eligibility other than he might shift to the OF during double switches, which might allow him to possibly gain OF eligibility, as well.

In other Muncy news, here's a Rotoworld blurb from 2014 that made me giggle a bit.

05.03.2014... Athletics first base prospect Max Muncy went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, and a stolen base on Friday for Double-A Midland.
Spin: It may be nothing, but Muncy played third base and has played third base once every four games. Josh Donaldson has third base locked down in Oakland, but it is always good to add positional flexibility. Muncy is hitting .320/.447/.474 for the season with seven doubles, one triple, and two home runs, while walking 23 times and striking out only 14 times. The 20-plus home run power he exhibited at High-A Stockton appears to have been a mirage, but he could hit .300 with 30-plus doubles while posting a great K/BB rate, which could allow him to unseat Daric Barton.

Mr. Bean's reaction when he looked at his fantasy team and saw that Muncy had hit yet another solo HR tonight.

He's starting the HR Derby....

I owned Judge last year and he fell off after the HRD, if I'm offered a trade in the 1yr I own him in, I'd likely take it.

It's tempting to sell for what you can get for him...but his keeper potential is too intriguing.

Oh god, I don’t like that. I may try to sell too, the derby always seems to kill hitters after the all star break.
