Jonathon Isaac 2018-2019 Season Outlook

Recommended Posts

Simmons sprained his ankle during the game so depending how bad it is Isaac and Ross should get more playing time.

Wednesday night was a decent test case for Isaac. No Vucevic, so Isaac/Gordon/Bamba starting at the 3/4/5.

Isaac had three field goal attempts and 2 rebounds at the half if I remember correctly. Finished with 10/5/1 and no stocks, and most of that came once the game was decided.

Past five games he is averaging a steal and two blocks in 27mpg, but he is only ranked 159th because of his 6/5/0.6.

At this point I think you have to hope that the Magic go into the tank and prioritize development, because as long as guys like Augustin, Fournier, Simmons and Ross are eating up usage, it is hard for Isaac to be anything more than a specialist. I'm holding till the trade deadline but will cut bait depending on how things look after that.

It's really frustrating to watch this team play offense.  Isaac's teammates show no faith in him despite him making good decisions almost every time he has the ball.  Their indifference to him affects his confidence and it's like a feedback loop.  Fournier and Gordon are just not good players IMO, they both give good effort, but play hero ball on offense and are constantly taking heavily contested shots.  Whenever Vuch is off the court they can't score, but I'm convinced if they ran more set plays through Isaac off of screen actions and such it would improve their efficiency a ton.  We'll see, my hope is that if the minutes can creep up above 30 consistently, the stats will come one way or another.

Good observations fellas however my opinion is starting to change a bit. At first I felt like it was a lack of opportunity and teammates ignoring him. The more I watch I feel like its a similar case with Mikal Bridges, Isaac is just passive offensively. Certain guys when they get the ball (like Oubre) you know they're looking to score. Isaac is looking to pass first in most cases. He's only aggressive right after he scores and gets a little bit of confidence. If he misses a shot he tends to just disappear and not look for another shot for a while. You can see the difference even with him and Bamba who gets much less playing time but takes more shots with his touches.

This leads me to believe its not necessarily who's on the court with him taking his usage. Its more or less just hope he plays the PF so he gets more rebounds and hope he continues to produce the defensive stats.

I can take the L in points as long as I get the dub in stocks.

I'm also ahead so I'll probably hold unless he loses his starting spot or minutes.

One of the knocks in his college scouting report was being too passive.

That said, part of developing a prospect is giving him the confidence to be aggressive. Pop did this repeatedly with Kawhi and it paid off down the road.

If the Magic stick with Vuc and Fournier and Gordon, Isaac will never develop into the kind of star he so clearly can become. Moving Vuc for a pass-first point guard would be a good first step but who knows what that organization is up to.

One bad game? He’s sucked all year, this damn thread is like 20 pages over a guy who averages like 5 4 1 1 1

its ridiculous.... everyone should have dropped him by page 4 for better options. Unless you’re in a 16 team league, holding on to him is a joke. Better luck next year

Is anyone still holding this scrub? First half 15 mins and absolutely no stats to his name, lol

As I said before, he will never get value the way the roster is currently constructed. I am treating him like a stash until the trade deadline. If the Magic do nothing then he is an immediate drop.

Those 2 stocks a game, though. With upside. His minutes have gone up in every month, now at 27 minutes per game.

Currently playing like a worse version than De'Anthony Melton (who is 3% owned in Yahoo).
