Tyler White 2018 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Tyler white is the Max Muncy of the AL. Similar batting profile, similar playing time concerns, and they even look similar! Personally i would take Tyler white over Muncy ros. There is no way white is riding the pine if he keeps crushing.

I completely agree, but just like Muncy I think Tyler White might be playing a little over his head right now.   He certainly will be relevant as long as he is getting playing time but I don't think they will pause to put Tyler on the bench if he shows any signs of slowing down.

Aj hinch was the guest on power alley. They asked him about whites playing time.  He said he expects gurriel to get a majority of the available at bats.

Forgive me - I don't follow the Astros all that much so I  could totally be missing something here- but is there a reason they feel indebted to giving Gurriel regular at-bats? For the year he's basically been an average hitter - .312 WOBA 99wRC+ (and one that doesn't walk at all either .315 OBP) and for the past month he's been very much below average- .294 WOBA and 87 wRC+

Being "indebted" to certain guys is a baseball maxim. It's why Dexter Fowler continued to get rolled out to his .180 incompetence while superior players like Bader and O'Neill languished on the bench. It's why Matt Holliday returns from the crypt and is instantly installed as a full timer. We don't have to like it, I sure as hell don't, but we baseball fans will have to live with it.

Damn he's swinging it. HR to win game in the 9th...along with another knock and walk...just no way they can take him outta lineup!

wRC+ is up to 181 right now. That would be tied with JD Martinez for 2nd in baseball. Minimum 135 PAs which is what White has.

It's a hot streak, but this is the degree of the hot streak.

There goes that fat, frumpy fellow again. Saving the Stros from a shutout.

Rotoworld:

Tyler White went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's loss to the Angels.

White stayed red hot with the two-run shot in the ninth inning to keep the Astros from being shut out. It was his second homer in as many days and his fourth since August 22. Dating back to a day earlier, August 21, White is 14-for-34 (.411) with those four homers, 12 RBI and seven runs scored. His good stretch can't be denied but White is still probably best left for AL-only leagues for now.

Are they serious? At this point in the season? Lets go even further: In the last 30 days he's hitting .345 with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs in 23 games. At what point do they think he's relevant to mixed leagues heading into September? I'm in a mixed league and I know I've been awfully happy to have him.

Pretty hilarious terrible take. And a direct contradiction to what they said just 3 days ago on the 28th.

White has been on a tear since returning to the majors in late July and is looking like a must-own in mixed fantasy leagues at this point.

Gattis and Marwin being out of the picture should be helpful.  If he finishes strong, I don't see how they keep him out of the DH slot in 2019.

Gonzales still has a year (2019) till he becomes a UFA.

Too many good players at relatively cheap contracts. I'd like a spot for Kyle Tucker to open up also but believe you are right with White becoming the DH.

Er, I think that means he's a FA heading into 2019.  He's listed here, anyway.

Yeah, Gattis is almost surely gone, which leaves the DH spot White's for the taking next season.  The emergence of White has surely made bringing back Gattis an extremely low priority.

Cooled off a lot

I am torn, 7 games this week, soft pitching but man, if the cold stretch stays it may cost me...

Me too. Im torn. He has such a juicy lineup spot on an offensive juggernaut, but its possible he's just not that good.  Unless you have a decent alternative you gotta stick with him id say.

Hard to sit vs the garbage he is facing this week

I was thinking of Josh Bell over him this week but the minute I do, White will go on a binge!!!

Yep, I was looking to sit him for the week after doing little lately. But then I saw those matchups, and I just can't sit a guy with those opponents.

vs Estrada tonight which is just about as good of a matchup as you can ask for a RHB these days. Ends year with a beautiful 4 game set @ BAL. I agree think he's a very strong start this week. Here's to hoping for a big week to end the year.

Well, scratch that first part. Not even in the lineup tonight. I’m still probably starting him for the week. Whenever he starts it’s a great matchup.

Well so much for that. Out of the lineup today. Very annoying. Gattis hits 5th tonight.
