Mitchell Robinson 2018-19 Season Outlook

Recommended Posts

2nd round pick(36th Overall) of the 2018 draft by the Knicks.

The Knicks center posted a summer league per game average of 13.0 ppg 10.2 rebs 4 blks 66.7 fg% 45.5ft% 24.6 min. The 4 blks a game is a summer league record.

He’s my late round flier this year and posted comparable numbers to Ayton and Wendell Carter in the summer league but still not as polished as those two. Also with Kanter  on the last year of his deal there has to be a good chance he gets traded. All signs pointing up for an opportunity to play.

Who’s on board on the Mitch Rob train?

I'm on board. Got to watch him in person at Summer League. He provides hustle and energy Kanter can't provide. Him and Kanter have opposite strengths. I think this is a timeshare at C at best.

A timeshare would be awesome for Robinson's value (versus riding the bench or getting 10 min/game).  If he can get around 20 min/game I think he can put up relevant value - maybe 8 points / 6 boards / 1 steal / 1.5 blocks on 60+% FG and negligent FT on minimal attempts.  Maybe those projections are a tad high but definitely attainable.   I could see something like Kanter 25 min/game - Robinson 20 min/game - maybe some other player Kornet or something around 3-5 min/game.

I think he can be a great pick at the end of the draft. Kanter won't play many minutes, he never did, last season he did all his damage in just under 26mpg. Mitchell can easily get 18-20mpg, and that should be enough for late round value.

He had video game numbers in summer league but I am curious to see how he does in the preseason at the next level up of competition. You can't foul out in summer league but he had a lot of fouls (6,7,5,1,5 in about 25 mins a game). Maybe it was just the excitement of his first organized basketball in a year?

From the posts here, he should be playing some minutes from opening night? No g league time to start? I assume it will all depend on how he does in the preseason. There's certainly little competition on the Knicks roster and he was a blue chip talent out of high school.

Adding to the hype train, he went to highschool in New Orleans and trained with Anthony Davis.

Kanter is one story, another - Porzingis. If Latvian sits the majority of the season - then I see some chances for Robinson to be relevant in fantasy. Anyway - in standard leagues I'd rather label him as a waiver wire watch.

I'm on board. I also agree that he and Kanter have very different playing styles and I'm more inclined on Robinson's defense. Might be a good catch at the end of the draft.

Will this guy get run?  Curious if he gets to play immediately or if he is shelved and plays sparingly as we hear all about what he does in practice.

He'll spend some time in D-league 4 sure.

But who plays backup C if not Robinson? I can see him getting mins from day one to be honest. They just have Vonleh and Kornet to play that role and neither is good.

Technically you are correct that neither player is good. Vonleh is merely below average and Kornet is a superstar. But barring having any good centers on your roster , would you not play the superstar instead?

0-4 FT....i have him with a strong FT team in Jimmy, AD, Ola, Booker....but 0-4 can hurt. I hope he can bring that up over time.

His best highlight was getting Markieff Morris kicked out of the game before halftime.

The dunks were nice too..

I hope he can achieve this every time he plays the wizards. Kief is the biggest chump in the league and the wizards are the biggest bunch of overrated, overpaid trash-talking wannabes in the league. Its so enjoyable watching them eat crow every year. Otto is the only likeable guy on their roster

LOL very true but the Wizards always provide entertainment. They're like that loud-mouth kid in high school that talks a lot of s**t but never backs it up.

Who would you rather have at the end of your draft and you need a C eligible, Robinson or Olynyk? Or who would you rather have on your team

Kanter is in his way for sure.  Loving Robinson's summer league record of 4 blocks a game.  I'm surprised more rookies aren't trying harder on defense.  Tells me how good MRob is already at at defense.  I think he can still average more than a block though.  That's still very valuable.  Knicks most definitely will view this as a developmental year, and Knox and Robinson will get tons of burn with Kanter maybe sitting later in the season.

So true, wouldn’t ever make the playoffs in the West yet people think John Wall is a top 5 PG lol

Drafted him in my dynasty league. I wouldn’t expect more than a block and board specialist this year. Rob is still real raw and just so skinny so he’s going to get bullied a ton. I really wish the Knicks started hi. Off in the G league this year but that’s not going to happen. He has the backup C mins locked up but unless your in a dynasty or deep league he will prob bd a really tough own for half the year. Next year he should start next to Zingis with Kanter being on his way out (I hope) as long as he shows growth throughout yhe season.

Stashing this dude is a less stupid version of owning Boban if you can stomach the free throw percentage.

I'd probably drop half of my roster for Danny Green lol.

Anyway, I really like Robinson's upside but I'm afraid he's gonna be the Willy Hernangomez of 2019. All hype, zero usefulness
