My Dinner With Andre

Favorite 3pt Specialists Who Were Ahead of their Time

Recommended Posts

I don't know why but I was just thinking about Jason Kapono. A career 43% shooter from behind the arc, Kapono probably would have been far more productive in today's style of play gunning like six 3pt attempts a night or something.

Who are some of your other favorite sharpshooters who perhaps played in the wrong era and whose  shooting prowess was underappreciated at the time?

Rasheed. Ball don't lie.

He got so much isht for going out to the 3 point line instead of playing in the paint. They said he was soft.

We looking for OG 3pm shooters?

Reggie Miller

Fisher

Hornacek

Bird

Byron Scott

Peja comes to mind.  He would be a monster in todays nba.    Might be the obvious pick but how about Reggie Miller?   career 4.7 3pg is laughable.  That 4.7 would have put him around 78 in attempts last year....... Thats mind blowing

It's Peja, Reggie, and Bird.

- Peja had a year where he was an MVP candidate.  He would go from "Hey, remember that guy!" to a few years where he was among the very best players in the game.  That's a huge jump with regards to how people think of basketball history.

- Reggie was never as good as anyone remembers.  He just wasn't.  But in today's game, he would've been a real rival for Jordan (although still obviously worse) as opposed to a guy that was like two tiers below him at the position.

- After his threepeat MVP, Bird was considered one of the GOATs, but of course now he's more of a top 10 guy, top 6 at best.  With a three point shot, I don't think he'd be in the Jordan/LeBron/KAJ argument but he'd definitely be super clearly in the next group.

Mirza Teletovic was a monster a few years ago for the Suns. He'll always be one of my favs.

Peja. During his time, 3s were considered a premium, unlike today where you can find 3s from 1-5. Peja used to be money for 3s, until he had all those back issues.
