Kevin Huerter 2018-19 Season Outlook

Recommended Posts

I didn't find a thread on him so I will start one. 19th pick after 2 years at Maryland. This kid can shoot the lights out and is currently shooting 45.8% from 3PT. Watching him play will reminds you a little bit of Klay Thompson and Devin Booker. He's just one of those guys that can fit in any offense because (1) deadeye shooter (2) good secondary passer (3) plays hard and competes. He's not a 3pt specialist though as he will also compete on the boards (5.0 in college) and make secondary passes (3.4 asts in college) .

This is Booker's first few months in his rookie year:

This is Klay's

Huerter is doing something very similar to them - shooting high % despite high volume in limited playing time. Both Klay and Booker got moved into the starting lineup later after the teams traded away the incumbent starters to clear playing time for them. He fits perfectly next to Trae Young and he's already earned the coach's trust.

He's not going to blow up until the Hawks trade Bazemore, and that might not happen this year. He will get extra playing time for the next game or two because Prince is out, so just keep an eye on him.

Loved his game as a Terp and wished he stayed.

Didnt think he’d be fantasy relevant for a couple of years but would be happy to be wrong.

Looking good and is getting PT over Baze... Prince is out tonight but still. I'm guessing Huerter is going to overtake Baze eventually.

As I said in the waiver thread, I don't think he's more than an average rebounder for a 2. It's just been a small sample size; guys like Okogie or even Patrick Beverley will get you more boards when they're on the floor, and that's not even accounting for guys with SF eligibility. His steal rates are also pretty terrible for his position. But he's a very good real life prospect that fits into Atlanta nicely, and now that he's getting minutes you can use a flier on him if he fits. He's doing a whole lot of nothing today but feel free to take a gamble on him if he has a big game. I would add him if Bazemore is ever traded, but until then he's not getting minutes.

Baze was in foul trouble in the first half.

Yeah I don't think the starting SG job is realistic, Bazemore is simply better, but Atlanta is very likely to trade Bazemore.

Drafted him in a very deep (16 team with 20 player rosters) dynasty roto league and have been rostering him (1020 max games played).  I really like his potential, as you stated he’s excellent shooter.  I’ve been pleasantly surprised by his defense, he’s been getting very solid steals for how many minutes he’s played.  As it’s been stated, Bazemore is better, but he has still been getting minutes.  The fact that he gets minutes even with Baze there is very encouraging.  His upside is tremendous, hard to come up with a comp, maybe Korver with more steals.

I'm considering dropping Stanley Johnson for him but having a hard time bc Johnson's been balling lately (not counting the OKC game where DET for rocked).

Huerter's production is actually very Stanley Johnson-ish.

If Stanley Johnson can hit 3's and get assists, yes

As a starter in 7 games, Huerter is averaging 27 mins, 7 points, 4 rebs, 3.4 asts, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 threes on 40%. If he starts getting more shot attempts I think we will be looking at a useful player for 12-team leagues

almost picked him up in multiple weekly leagues this week, then changed my mind, then Prince goes down...hopefully he doesn't have a breakout game this week because I'm planning on adding him everywhere on Sunday.  I think Bazemore has a good chance to get traded and Huerter has a good chance to be a top 80/90 player after the all-star break even if he doesn't.  I think he has the potential to be a better add than Okobo, Melton, Derrick White types especially in roto formats.

Agreed, if we can get the points up to 10-12, he would flying off the wire. He’s definitely on my radar.

10ppg, 4rebs, 4asts, 1.5stls, 1.5 3s - man, if he can reach this stats in 27-30mins, he's a gem. Do you guys think it's possible?

He's been averaging close to that the past few games except the steals.

Wondering if he can be productive ROS. Its a crowded Wing/Guard group when everyone is healthy. I actually like him more as a stash than the Mikal Bridges hype lol

He’s definitely a part of their future so minutes shouldn’t be a problem. His usage is another thing. Tonight is a nice indication of what he’s capable of, I just wanna see a few more shot attempts going forward.
